What makes a stay at Glen Tanar Cottages unique?

The estate works in close partnership with the Scottish Natural Heritage, the Forestry Commission of Scotland and the Cairngorms National Park. Michael and Claire place a great deal of emphasis on conservation and responsible land management in this internationally important site. Theirs is a culture of gradually investing, of constantly improving, of sensitive adaptation to changing times. In this way, they aim at balancing the needs of a growing business with those of a rural community and a unique natural environment.

What is the capacity for Glen Tanar Cottages?

There is a range of 9 luxury cottages sleeping from 2 to 11 persons. Each cottage has its own unique character, and several of them are listed buildings. Warm, inviting and authentic, they are decorated with paintings by local artists, and handmade curtains and cushions in carefully selected fabrics, which reflect the natural features of the Glen outside.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Aboyne area?

Glen Tanar provides some of the best fishing and deer stalking in Scotland, with one of the world's greatest salmon fishing rivers flowing through its heart and a thriving deer population roaming its heather-clad hills. Within an hour drive of Aberdeen and just over an hour from Dundee, the estate is easily accessible. Walk through the purple-clad hills and towering ancient pines, breathe in the scent of pine-trees and sap, hear the soft crunch of footsteps on the trail, and the gurgle of the Tanar, as you head for Mount Keen.
