Overview

All aboard the Epping Ongar Railway Epping Ongar railway does a brisk trade in transporting 21st century punters back in time to the era of steam and tea served in proper tea cups. The volunteer-run heritage line operates steam and diesel hauled trains through 6.5 miles of picturesque rolling countryside in Essex. It starts with a trip on a vintage bus from Epping station followed by a relaxing steam journey though stunning forest and historic towns, all the while imagining yourself back in gentler times when railways had porters and buffet cars sold more than soggy panninis. Plus you've a great range of steam and diesel engines to inspect, period stations, a nearby WWII airfield museum, shopping opportunities in Epping and Ongar's historic High Street.
