Overview

With a Victorian gothic style that looks like it's jumped straight out of a 19th century novel, you'll fall in love with this former hunting lodge turned B&B. Set in the beautiful Mendip Hills just one mile from the cathedral city of Wells, it's got all the hallmarks of a cool country pile: posh-looking antique furniture to admire in the reception rooms, roaring fires to warm chilly hands, and a Victorian walled garden to stroll around, bursting with colourful English bluebells and featuring an old stone bridge. Unpack your bags in a variety of traditional-looking en-suite bedrooms and sleep soundly on your romantic four-poster or rustic cast iron bedstead. In the summer cool off in the luxurious outdoor pool and read your favourite book on the comfy loungers or head out and explore Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury or Wells nearby.

What makes a stay at Beryl unique?

In 1838, local lawyer Edmond Davis commissioned Edwin Pugin's pupil Benjamin Ferrey to design and undertake the construction of a Gothic Revival style mansion as a family home for himself and his wife, Mary-Ann. The property was to be called' Beryl.' As seen in Westminster's Houses of Parliament, Pugin's style is reflected in the fine wood carving and panelling, tiled flooring and wallpaper of the Main Hallway.
