Overview

At Anne of Cleves House Museum you can investigate how the Tudors and Elizabethans lived, worked and relaxed at home. This delightful medieval house had an impact in the account of one of England's most acclaimed rulers, Henry VIII and his separation settlement with his fourth spouse Anne of Cleves. Features authentically furnished rooms and a conventional Tudor planted nursery which utilizes customary plants and planting plans.

Where is Anne of Cleves House Museum located?

Anne of Cleves' House is a 15th-century timber-framed Wealden hall house located in East Sussex, England.

What is the history of Anne of Cleves House Museum to the present day?

Henry VIII and his wives have fascinated the British for generations so it's little wonder that Anne of Cleves' House, tucked away in rural Sussex, is such a popular visitor attraction. Anne was given the house in 1541 as part of her divorce settlement from the king and this timber-framed Wealdon hall-house now has a large collection of interesting local artefacts. The house's interior (which by the way wouldn't look out of place today on a chic boutique hotel website), with its timber beams and gorgeous furniture, is a wonderful sight and a visit leaves you with a much clearer sense of how the Tudors lived from day to day – it's a super resource for children learning about Henry and his reign at school (and there are plenty of workshops designed for schoolchildren too).

What is there to see and do at Anne of Cleves House Museum?

Other displays include the Wealdon ironwork gallery that illustrates this influential Sussex industry. The Tudor Garden is a must see and the tearoom offers a relaxing break.
