The aim at 1861 is to always produce exceptional food, using local farmers, vegetable producers and butchers. With a keen eye on provenance and carbon footprint, the team strives to create a welcoming environment in which to enjoy a sensational meal.

The 7-course tasting menu is something of a signature dish, and the seasonal foraging menus are also held in high regard. Another signature dish is the duo of duck with sour cherries. There is an extensive wine selection on offer, including wine from nearby White Castle Vineyard. For gin lovers, there are around 25 different gins on offer.

All ingredients and locally and responsibly sourced. Most of the vegetables come from a nursery in Nantyderry, belonging to Kate's father, keeping food miles to an absolute minimum and ensuring the freshest possible taste.

Outstanding food and drink. Excellent range of British foods presented in wonderful range of ways which means there is always something for everyone. Intimate dining room. Staff and proprietors welcoming. Quality, imagination and reasonable price.

First visit with friends. Excellent service and I a gluten free/coeliac. Marvellous choice on menu. GF bread superb. The whole meal right through to petite fours and coffee all exceptional standard. Wine choice great & NZ Marlborough good.
