Stephenson Railway Museum is a small heritage railway that occupies the test track for the Tyne & Wear Metro. Its heritage railway is run by dedicated local volunteers, with trains running in season on Sundays and Bank Holidays and on Thursday during North Tyneside school holidays. During December weekends, the railway runs Santa Specials.

The house was the home of the Delaval family who were famous for the notoriously extravagant parties they threw in the Georgian period.
