Overview

Stay in a Windmill, perfectly placed to explore North Norfolk, Norwich and the Broads. Aylsham is a lovely, vibrant yet very old market town. The Windmill was renovated in 2000 and has provided top quality accommodation for up to six guests ever since. Perfect too as a base for walkers and cyclists, with good access to off road trails.

What makes a stay at Aylsham Windmill unique?

Have your very own private windmill, even if just for a few days. Unique accommodation over four floors. Aylsham Windmill is equipped with everything you will need. You have a private, sunny patio, and parking for up to 3 cars. After a busy day exploring Norfolk, have a relaxing BBQ, then retreat to the cool calm of the mill. The extra thick round walls will make you feel cocooned, away from all the hustle and bustle.

What is the capacity for Aylsham Windmill?

Aylsham Windmill sleeps up to six. A kingsized bedroom is on the third floor. This room has an en-suite with bath and shower cubicle. The second floor has twin and double bedrooms. These both have access to a 'Jack & Jill' en-suite shower room. The first floor is an open plan lounge and kitchen. Ground floor - utility and cloakroom.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Aylsham area?

The historic town of Aylsham is remarkably well placed to discover different areas and aspects of Norfolk. 10 miles from the city of Norwich, with its lovely lanes, museums, castle, cathedral and plenty more. 10 miles from the coast at Cromer, the traditional seaside town. A little further the delights of the North coast, at Blakeney and Wells, and the iconic Holkham beach. The Norfolk Broads are about 40 mins away, with so much to see and do from canoeing, day boating, or birdwatching at one of the many reserves. National Trusts' Blickling and Felbrigg Halls are very close to Aylsham. Walking and cycling is a pleasure on Norfolk's 'quiet lanes' or the off road Marriott's and weavers' Way trails.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Aylsham itself has several lovely cafes for lunches and teas. Evening meals can be enjoyed in the central market square at the Black Boys Hotel, or the Gate of India. There are also fish and chips, chinese and kebab takeaways. There are several good hotels and pubs very close to Aylsham, the Plough Inn, the Marsham Arms and the New Forge to name a few and many of the surrounding villages have excellent pubs too. Norwich has many excellent eateries of course.

Lovely stay in Norfolk. We stayed for a long weekend in November as an extended family including a toddler and two grandparents. The stay was fantastic - Tim & Janet were super welcoming and friendly, the windmill was spotless and in great condition and we stayed toasty warm inside during some chilly weather. The property is 10-15 minutes' walk from the centre of town and we enjoyed some takeaways as well as having everything on hand to cook that we needed. Aylsham has a good size Tesco's so we didn't need to bring lots with us. There were also a number of books, games and DVDs in the windmill, and having access to Netflix and iPlayer on the TV was great. There were two dedicated parking spots for us. I struggle to think of anything that could have been done to make our stay any better - Tim & Janet do such a good job and the property is lovely, highly recommended!

An idyllic stay in beautiful accommodation. 5/5. We had such a lovely stay here, from the ease of booking, super communication and arriving at the windmill everything was brilliant. The place is extremely clean and they have thought of everything you might need. Each room is beautifully decorated and beds are very comfy. The location is perfect for days out with the bure train just round the corner which takes you to a boat that you can go on the Norfolk broads on. We also took a trip to Cromer beach a couple of times which has good facilities, is clean and has a great fish and chip shop. An enjoyable stay that we are already planning to repeat.

Stunning! Chris and Julie Review We were excited to find the link on I footpath for this amazing property. The whole mill is stunning, the interior so comfortable, giving a real sense of home from home. The patio garden and planting was beautiful, so nice to have our own outside space. Chris thoroughly enjoyed his bike rides starting just 200 metres from the Windmill, and all our visits in the local area were brilliant. The foodie gifts on our arrival were very welcome, especially the honey cake! Tim and Janet are excellent hosts and we can't wait to stay there again. 5/5

Beautiful place to stay. A brilliant stay in a unusual property. a lot of thought and consideration has gone into renovating the windmill to a high standard. very generous welcome pack from the hosts who are friendly and pleasant. everything is there that you could want. very clean and comfortable. seating area out side is a bonus and private parking for the car. good base for all the walks nearby and the attractions not too far to walk into Aylsham. we booked after viewing on the website where it looked lovely but on arrival it exceeded our expectations.

Great hospitality and facilities. 5/5. This was our second time staying at the Windmill and it proved to be the right choice again. The owners were friendly and helpful. The cottage was clean and cosy. Tim and Janet were very approachable and we had a BBQ together. They also offered a good choice of games and cartoons which kept the children entertained! Highly recommended!

Home from home. We have stayed at the Mill many times over the years and it is our preferred holiday accommodation in Norfolk. Tim and Janet are the perfect hosts and provide everything you need for a perfect holiday. Lots of little extras in the kitchen and bathroom make your stay even more enjoyable. We will be going back there again and again.

Another brilliant stay. Everything is there that you need at this lovingly restored windmill. Good location for a short walk into Aylsham and surrounding places to visit.

Arrival information & directions

Address: Cawston Road, Aylsham, Norfolk, AylshamNR11 6NB, United Kingdom

Aylsham Windmill is on the B1145 on the outskirts of Aylsham, on the road towards Cawston. Postcode NR11 6NB. Sat Nav however will not take you to the exact location!  From Norwich turn left off the A140 at the Aylsham/Cromer roundabout Follow Henry Page Road for about half a mile round the out skirts of Aylsham until you get to a right turn to 'Town Centre and Saxthorpe'. Go under the railway bridge, entrance is a little turning 2nd on the left.

If you are travelling via Blickling or going through Aylsham Town centre, take the B1145 Cawston Road from Aylsham centre.  Follow the road past the Feathers Pub on the right and past small close called Mill Pightle.  The drive is the next little turning on the right.
