Overview

Stone Cottage is the quintessential Lakeland cottage in a magnificenct setting with incredible mountain views. It is exquisitely finished and the sensitive restoration has created a cottage with a real sense of place. Guests love the views, attention to detail in the interior design, the open fire, the many walks from the door and the bird life in the beautiful garden.

What makes a stay at Stone Cottage unique?

Painstakingly and respectfully refurbished, original features have been exposed and new additions thoughtfully chosen to create a truly beautiful cottage with a sense of history and a sense of place – and boy what a place!…there are few settings which capture the essence of Lakeland better than this. Inside the Farrow and Ball paints and designer fabrics complement the finest local materials and artist's works. Understated and elegant, Stone Cottage really feels loved and indulged with details rarely found in other holiday homes. The house is private and peaceful yet has 21st century luxuries: good WiFi, Sky Q box and a superbly equipped kitchen. On arrival guests enjoy flowers, Prosecco, homemade cake and can order meals from the local farmshop.

What is the capacity for Stone Cottage?

Stone Cottage hosts up to 6 people including all children. Upstairs there are two kings and two separate single bedrooms. One king is adjacent to the family bathroom and at the foot of the stairs is a shower-room. On the ground floor is a spacious living-room, cosy dining room and large well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and utility area.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Patterdale area?

Firstly, the cottage is nowhere near Penrith! It is set in the heart of the Lake District, 2 miles south of Patterdale at the head of the valley just before it climbs southwards to Windermere (11 miles) and Ambleside (8 miles). Both are great large villages for shopping with a good supermarket in Windermere. Ambleside has a super independent cinema with 5 screens and two vegetarian restaurants, plus boasts many other great places to eat and drink. Ullswater;often considered to be England's most beautiful lake, is just a 2 mile walk from the cottage. Take a tour of the lake on a "steamers" or use one of the many guides provided to venture into the mountains surrounding the cottage.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

There is milk, tea, fresh coffee, homemade cake and prosecco on arrival - plus useful bits and bobs like salt, pepper, cooking oil, sugar are provided. In advance a range of farmshop frozen meals can be ordered as well as milk, juice, eggs and even a local cheese hamper. Locally there are 3 pubs which serve simple pub grub plus a hotel on the lake which has a wider choice of options. The local shop in Patterdale is just a mile away and good for essentials with a mini-mart in Glenridding just 2 miles away which has a wide range of produce plus an excellent range of local beers.

Thank-you for sharing Stone Cottage with our family. You think of everything – and it is a joy to stay here. The cake and fizz were a wonderful welcome and delicious. This has to be one of the most sublime spots on earth. We have sat out on the gorgeous terrace and marvelled at the beauty of God's green earth.

Another wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. We have had a relaxing time watching the family of rabbits in the back garden - absolutely adorable. Not to forget the flycatchers above the front door. Thanks again Helen and Richard for making our stay so special.

Stone Cottage has exerted its magic once more. Can't imagine ever tiring of the beauty of the setting and the flair and generosity of spirit which makes staying in the cottage so special.
