Overview
The Shooting Lodge is a traditional lodge on the Stowlangtoft estate, which comprises 1000 acres of arable, woods and parkland. The lodge is the perfect retreat for a couples idyllic weekend escape, and has been fully renovated to a high standard while maintaining its charm and appeal that brought sportsmen to its door throughout its history.
The character of the property, and the wider estate, is what makes your stay at The Shooting Lodge so memorable. From the moment you cross the threshold through the porch into the main living area, little features still present like the open fire will enchant you. The lodge comes with its own outdoor eating area, the place to finish the day after a leisurely walk across the estate. There is a selection of books, games and DVDs, perfect for those evenings in front of the fire.
Described as a true country hideaway, the lodge can still act as the perfect base for the wider countryside, Suffolk is renowned for its scenery and history but an eclectic mix of activities and sights exists within a short distance, such as beautiful Bury St Edmunds.
The Stowlangtoft Estate is also a premier sporting estate, with over 100 years history of game shooting. The Catchpole family are continuing this tradition and offer excellent quality sport with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

We stayed in the Amherst House with our 2.5 year old son and we didn't want to leave. It was for a get together with friends (16 of us) so we had 4 of the cottages booked. They are all of a similar standard.
The House is VERY well equipped, you will not need to take anything with you as they have everything covered. The quality of the fixtures and fittings is of the highest standard and looks great. The house was nice and snug and looks amazing at night with some low lighting on whilst snuggling up on the large couch.
Nearby (about 15 secs walk) is a nice restaurant and bar which is a converted stable and looks great, again we didnt want to leave.
The grounds are great for walking in and exploring the small areas of woods were great fun for our toddler, he expended SO much energy chasing pheasants that he slept for 13 hours straight!
I would recommend this for families and couples, it was well worth the money and we will be back.

We stayed in the Coach House - it's the best equipped holiday rental I've ever stayed in. It is light and spacious and very clean. Really nice touches are the toys, dressing up clothes and books for children - toddlers love to play with something different and my granddaughter was no exception. She had a whale of a time, with walks and a wooden play frame outside, and lots of space and toys inside. It's a very peaceful, quiet and exceptionally pretty location. The Dark Horse restaurant across the courtyard is ideally situated for a meal, and has a varied menu of tasty well presented food. A word of warning - there is no phone signal, but free Wifi can be used to make calls.

Thank you so much, six of us stayed to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. It was a really fabulous standard well equipped quiet and relaxing. We didn't do a lot of exploring because the weather was so dreary but we enjoyed it immensely. There is a restaurant there too but we had already decided to cook on the first night and go into town on the second night. A real get away from it all with all the home comforts except mobile phone signal - bliss!
