Summary

AS FEATURED IN CORNWALL LIFE - "A beautifully restored farmhouse .. with a lovely atmosphere, space and light that makes the most of its prominent position .." Porthcothan House is an elegant Georgian farmhouse in a prime position overlooking Porthcothan beach. Faithfully restored and let since 2005 it is perfect for a luxury family holiday, special occasion or short break. It is "a fine large house with clear rooms and such lovely silence, a faint sound of the sea and such peace I could cry”. (DH Lawrence in 1915)

What makes a stay at Porthcothan House unique?

Guests describe the house as a magical place with light and airy rooms, a wonderful atmosphere, lovely views and in a perfect location (600m from Porthcothan beach, 3 miles from Watergate Bay and 5 from Padstow). Activities of every kind are nearby - the 7 bays for 7 days, golf & tennis at Trevose, walks along the Coast Path, surfing, sailing, coasteering, cycling along the Camel Trail, fishing and any number of things to do and places to visit. The beds are by Savoir, the baths cast iron, the furnishings tasteful and the kitchen is equipped to the highest standard with gas fired Aga, separate cooker, Miele machines and even Riedel glass.

What is the capacity for Porthcothan House?

The house has 5 double bedrooms (all facing the sea, with Savoir beds and the sound of the sea at high tide), I single and 5 bathrooms (1 with steam shower). Capacity is 11 although it is not unusual for the house to be taken for 2 people.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Padstow area?

Waking in a Savoir No2 bed to the sound of a high tide. Watching the sun go down over Porthcothan beach. Watersports of all kinds with Porthcothan and 7+ sandy beaches nearby. Timeless walks along the Coastal Path up to Trevose Head, along to Harlyn and Trevone into Padstow. Mackerel fishing in the estuary. Cycling along the Camel Trail. Visiting the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Lanhydrock, St Michel's Mount, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor. Golf at Trevose. Returning from a thrilling winter walk along the cliffs to a warm house and cream tea in front of the fire.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Cornwall is renowned for its food and drink and the choice locally could hardly be better - from fresh crab at Stein's Fishery, home grown beef at Padstow Farm Shop, the Falcon Inn and Farmers Arms pubs and fine dining at Nathan Outlaws, Jamie Oliver's, Rick Steins and Paul Ainsworth's No 6.
