Overview

An award-winning collection of holiday cottages and luxury log cabins, all situated in a secluded position at the foot of the Eildon Hills just outside Melrose in the Tweed Valley, southern Scotland.

An ideal getaway for those seeking the fresh air and wide open spaces of the Scottish countryside and a perfect location from which to explore the region.

What makes a stay at Eildon Melrose Holiday Cottages & Log Cabins unique?

The location is what really sets it apart - it's peaceful and tranquil, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and stunning views yet only a 10-15 minutes walk into town for a coffee.

The two log cabins were hand-built by local craftsmen using huge Douglas Fir tree trunks, sustainably sourced from local forests. Reiver's Hideaway won the award for the Best Green Holiday Home in Europe at the European Holiday Home Awards 2021. Both log cabins enjoy uninterrupted views of the Eildon Hills, best enjoyed from the wood-fired hot tub with a glass of fizz in hand.

The six holiday cottages are all within a Georgian farm steading conversion, formerly owned by the Duke of Buccleuch. The character of the historic buildings has been retained and provides charming accommodation with far-reaching views over Melrose and the Tweed Valley beyond. Five of the cottages are wheelchair accessible and have bedrooms and bathrooms that are suitable for wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility.

There are lovely walks right from the doorstep, so it's perfect for walkers and guests with dogs. The gardens are often visited by the local wildlife too. Deer, rabbits, hares, foxes, squirrels and badgers are frequent visitors in addition to the abundant songbird population.

What is the capacity for Eildon Melrose Holiday Cottages & Log Cabins?

Eildon Melrose can sleep a maximum of 33 guests. The capacity of each property is as follows:

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Melrose area?

Melrose is a small but historic market town with a thriving high street full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Its location is ideal for exploring the wider area of the Tweed valley and southern Scotland, from the wild hills in the west to the fine sandy beaches of the east coast. A region that is famous for its beautiful landscapes and its rich history. The Tweed Valley has long been an aristocratic playground and there are numerous castles, stately homes and fine gardens to explore as well as ancient forests, pristine rivers and heather-clad hills.

Sporting opportunities also abound with trout and salmon fishing on the river Tweed, mountain biking at Glentress and Innerliethen, golf at numerous nearby courses including the championship course at The Roxburghe, shooting and haggis hunting, kayaking, paddle boarding or wild swimming on the local lochs, hill walking, horse riding (enthusiasts should check out the Border Common Ridings), road cycling on lovely quiet roads or watching the famous Melrose 7s at the Greenyards (where rugby 7s was invented).

Day trips to Edinburgh are also very easy via the Borders Railway - from Tweedbank (just outside Melrose) to the city centre takes just under an hour.

There is a comprehensive guide to the local area on the owner's website - well worth having a look at when planning a holiday.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Eildon Melrose is a 10-15 minute walk or 2 minute drive from Melrose town centre. The thriving high street has a butcher shop, a fishmonger, a greengrocer, two bakeries, a delicatessen and a wine shop all offering fantastic local produce for which the area is famous for. Melrose also has several cafes and superb restaurants for those wanting to eat out plus a wide choice of high quality takeaway restaurants that deliver direct to Eildon Melrose.
