Overview

The perfect place for a family or friends gathering, anniversary or birthday celebration. Derwent House is a six-bedroom, luxury self-catering accommodation located deep in the heart of Derbyshire. A traditional eighteenth-century Georgian building, Derwent House has many of its original features, with the oak-beamed ceilings and quarry tile floorings steeped in history. The house has, however, been renovated to offer high standards of modern living and creature comforts, a big favourite among clientèle being a spacious dining area for dinner parties and precious family moments.

What is the capacity for Derwent House?

Derwent House Matlock, provides accommodation for up to 12 people within beautifully designed, listed Georgian Grade II, self-catering house with double-front bay windows. The house has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms set over three floors, with many of the original characteristics still on show, making it an perfect place for groups.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Matlock area?

There is a great deal to keep the whole family busy, as Derwent House is the perfect location to explore the Peak District National Park, including the Matlock Trail, whilst also acting as a base for those wanting to explore the historical town of Matlock and its culture.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

In Matlock you will find many interesting places for lunch, just a short walk from Glendon. There is a wide variety of vegetarian dishes at the Green Way café. The  Cool River Café is the perfect spot for lunch. Zinc, which serves beautiful cakes and has a small welcoming garden behind it, is a more recent addition to the coffee scene, with a range of cards and gifts to buy. There are also cafes in many of the Dale Road's antique and vintage stores. And Hall Leys Park is a great location for a picnic outdoors when the sun is shining. Grab a sandwich or other light meal from across the street at Mrs. Winkles and enjoy it in the beautiful park.

“Perfect” This was the family's second visit to Derwent House, this was better than the first time only because of better weather, the house cannot be improved on. It is so well equipped, the kitchen is large with every appliance you could think of and includes everyday items missing from most rentals (tea, coffee, milk, sugar and a range of cooking items such as flour, oil etc). All six bedrooms are spacious as is the family bathroom. The range of DVDs, CDs, games and toys are available for indifferent weather. There were fresh flowers in the main rooms and the "dressing" of the house with pictures, busts etc adds to the interest in the aged property. Our family consists of Mum and Dad, three sons with partners and three grandchildren and we had plenty of room to play and socialise. Great place - we will return again.

Great place for couples or families. Derwent House is such a smashing house and it feels like home as soon as you walk in. It's immaculately clean, all the rooms have lovely furniture and the equipment in the massive kitchen is top notch. There's even tin foil/cling film /tea/coffee/herbs/spices/dischcloths/tea towels/ etc all included. And a large utility room, meaning the rest of the house can stay tidy. The beds are very comfy with very nice bed linen and towels are included. The house was lovely and warm and the log fire in the sitting room was a treat. Very well situated, a nice level stroll into the centre of Matlock. There is nothing at all to dislike about this house, it's great value for couples or a couple of families. And right next to the park too.

Excellent holiday accommodation Derwent House provides excellent holiday accommodation in a quiet location near the centre of Matlock. We appreciated the efficient heating, a log burner (wood provided) and a utility with space to dry wet outdoor clothes. Vases of fresh flowers in the reception rooms and teddy bears on the beds were a nice touch. The large kitchen is extremely well equipped with a good range of utensils. There is an ample supply of books, games, DVD's and CD's in the cosy snug. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable house; we would definitely return and recommend to others.

Derwent House is a truly beautiful property. There were 10 of us ( friends for 50 years) staying over the New Year and it was a really joyful occasion. The house was very well equipped, warm, comfortable and easy to manage. There was so much to do around Matlock and when we came back it meant we could relax and have conversations all together in the large and well-appointed rooms. All in all it could not have been better and was perfect for our purposes.

Group of friends We had a wonderful weekend, the house is beautiful, big, well-equipped and very tastefully decorated. The roll top bath was amazing. We were a group of 12 friends and we had plenty of room to socialise and to eat together in the dining room. The log burner was also a lovely touch especially as we were here in very wild, wet and windy weather.

Absolutely fabulous place to have a family get together. Lovely 5 day break in this beautiful, spotlessly clean house. The owners had thought of everything that was needed and more. The fresh flowers throughout were a special touch. We would definitely come again and highly recommend. The owner was very helpful and quick to respond to my questions.

Great house. We had an excellent house party for 5 couples this weekend. It is very comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of room but still intimate. Warm and good showers. There is lots to do in the area and plenty of take always for Sunday night when we had exhausted our cooking passions

Birthday celebration Perfect house for a gathering of friends to celebrate my 50th year. Ideal location and setting, the web pictures don’t do it justice. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the Peak District. Even storm Dennis didn’t dampen things!

AB

Derwent House surpassed expectations. A beautiful house, fabulously decorated and furnished. Elegant, spacious and comfortable. We hope to return.
