Guests have their own entrance, with secure off-street parking for up to 5 vehicles and a lock-up for bikes and boards. Living next door, the owners take pride in the warmth of their welcome and their readiness to help, while strictly observing guests' privacy. Craster is located at the centre of the North Northumberland coastal experience, with 5 medieval castles and more than 5 golf courses all within half an hour's drive. Alnwick Castle is famous both as Harry Potter's Hogwarts and for the Alnwick Garden. Edinburgh is an hour away by rail (Alnmouth station is a 14 minute drive), and Durham is 45 minutes away. The Roman Wall is a 45 minute drive, and there are many other local places of interest - not least Holy Island and the Farne Islands. The beaches are numerous and uncrowded, and the walking is outstanding.

There has been a gastronomic explosion in Northumberland in recent years. The Tower is fortunate to have 2 first-class restaurants within 10 minutes' walk, both in Craster village - the Jolly Fisherman, a renowned gastro-pub, and the Craster Fish Restaurant, which is located within the kipper yard itself. Just a few minutes' walk from the Tower, over the road in the old kitchen garden, is the Cottage Inn, which offers an excellent Sunday lunch in addition to a very competent menu for the rest of the week, with a fine outdoor play area for children. Next door, there is also a first-rate coffee shop that is excellent for a late breakfast.
