Overview

Chapel Bank is a very unique cottage. Once a Methodist Chapel, built in 1859 by Cornish miners, it is now a cottage with a difference with the benefits of 21st century comforts in a historical building with many original features. The cottage is a great base for active families and groups, or just for relaxation, perfectly located for access to the fells, with local village amenities and pubs all a short walk away, and perfect to come home to after a satisfying day out!

What is the capacity for Chapel Bank House?

The property is ideal for up to six adults or families alike with spacious rooms. The house is laid out over three floors and is upside down in layout with its living areas located on the top floor (trust us the views are worth the climb). Chapel Bank House is a well-appointed property with quality furnishings and appliances.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Coniston area?

Coniston is an excellent location for outdoor lovers, with some great year-round hiking, biking, water sports, fishing and cycling. There are several great trails to be found in the area for cycling enthusiasts and the delights of Grizedale Forest are just a short ride away. Every year Coniston provides 5k, 10k, marathon and half Marathon options for runners of all capabilities. For those who come to walk the area, no trip to Coniston would be complete without a climb up the Old Man of Coniston. However, for those of you who want more of a relaxing stay, the Ruskin Museum is located in Brantwood, a Victorian home of Philosophe John Ruskin, where frequent events and art classes are held.

Other Information

The lane to the cottage is steep, twisty & narrow! Please drive carefully. The stairs in the cottage are wooden and un-carpeted.  Guests are asked to supervise small children & pets on the stairs.

What a super Christmas we have had at Chapel Bank! Extremely comfortable. A fantastically resourced kitchen with everything we needed to prepare & serve our numerous “Christmas feasts”! We parked our 2 cars with ease in the garage on arrival, which was so convenient for unpacking as it was a very wet day, in fact we haven't moved the cars at all as we have been so well positioned for walking, the tea shops and the pubs! Beautiful views from every window, with plenty of room for all 6 of us. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Many thanks. Congratulations on a first class property. I am sure that we will return!

Stunning property seems like so much care has been put into Chapel Bank House, could sit and look at the views from the windows for hours, love the décor and colours of the house, top quality furnishings & equipment, everything has been thought of, wish we could live here for ever. Thank you for sharing your lovely house, will be back asap. Immaculately clean comfortable bedding, spotless house every inch was immaculate thanks to Colleen & Julie the cleaners we appreciated your attention to detail. Every room is beautiful. Don't want to leave!

We loved staying at Chapelbank. We loved the views of Coniston and the feeling of peace in the house - Petra particularly loved the wool duvets and silky smooth bedding which she didn't want to get out of in the mornings! The location is perfect for some lovely hill and lake walks! We walked every day! The house is perfect and would be great for a family Christmas holiday - I'm talking to my parents about the possibility of doing this!

Beautiful house, full of character and history, comfortable and very well-equipped with those extra touches that make a holiday rental, such as: baskets full of local guides and maps; films, games and books. The flights of stairs will help your fitness regime and practising parking the car should improve your driving skills. The views across Coniston Water and towards the fells are lovely, the weather sometimes capricious of course.

This is a beautiful place – immaculate, has everything we needed and was peaceful yet close to village, park and lake. It's lovely to sit upstairs with the windows open and listen to the birds and look at the stunning views – we don't want to go home!!! Nice to stay at a classy place that takes dogs and even dog towels!! Thank you we loved it!! XXX
