Had a lovely few days in Litton and this cottage made the stay even more memorable. Jill is an excellent host. The cottage is warm and cosy with everything you would need to make it feel home from home. Will definitely be booking this cottage again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first Stay at the cottage and would definitely recommend it. We stayed for a week as we wanted to do some walks and explore the Peak District. The location is great with its local pub and village shop and the cottage is full of traditional features and character. Candle light was extremely well equipped with all mod cons and was very clean, cosy and comfortable, great to return to after a full days walking! The owners have taken the time to provide lots of information regarding walks, maps, leaflets and books on the area and the attention to detail was much appreciated. Finally, we were greeted with a very warm welcome from Simon on arrival and loved the locally sourced goodies in the welcome pack!! Thank you - We would definitely stay at Candle light Cottage again.

Our second visit to Candlelight Cottage and every bit as lovely as we remembered. The cottage is so well equipped - we didn't want for anything. Very comfortable and exceptionally clean The cosiness of the kitchen with the AGA and the wonderfully comfortable living room complete with Christmas tree and the wood burner made it very difficult for us to leave! Despite the weather being inclement we found plenty of places to go and for the days when the weather allows there are lots of walks from the doorstep. We are now looking forward to our next visit. Thank you to Jill and Simon for thinking of everything and for the help and suggestions for places to visit.

Candlelight cottage was a comfortable, clean, and cosy base from which to get out and explore a bit of the Peaks. Well situated for walking and towns, easy to find, and well equipped: I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a trip to the Peak District. We loved the woodburner, Aga, and modern bathroom. The Red Lion pub opposite did good food. Thanks Simon and Jill

They say that repeat business is the best business. This is why we have already booked for 2019!!

This is an outstanding cottage in an outstanding village with an outstanding pub.

The tranquility is very special in any weather. Everything whether rain shine or tempest is available at this cottage. This includes maps for the walker since there are wonderful walks from the village.

In fact you can quickly immerse yourself into village life.

A wonderful stay and a special thank you to Simon and Jill for their kindness and for being so thoughtful

We are already looking forward to 2019

After too long a gap we returned to this cottage for a second time. It was just as lovely as we remembered.
Very well appointed and equipped we were cosy and comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. It is spotlessly clean and well situated for exploring the area.
Simon and Jill are terrific hosts and we felt very well looked after. The welcome pack was a bonus too. All in all a tip top visit.

Litton is small village centrally located for many tourist attractions in the local area. It offers plenty of walks straight from the front door and so is ideal for walkers or cyclists. The cottage is so homely and thoughtfully designed that you have many luxury’s to hand. Beautifully soft bedding in pretty bedrooms with mattress toppers and warm quilts aid a really good nights sleep. Nearly everything you can think of, is in the kitchen for budding chefs or choose,to eat out in the excellent pub opposite your front door or any of the local eateries. Weather poor? Read books, play games, watch dvds, listen to music.. it is all provided for you. Need to update your Facebook? Free WiFi is provided but beware mobile phone coverage can vary. I personally liked that, as we had quiet, undisturbed holiday. Clothes dirty or wet? Wash and dry clothes in the cellar utility area, it is even heated for you.
This was my second visit after 8 years and my husbands first visit. I can say that the cottage was just as I remembered it and Simon makes you feel very welcome. He stresses it is your home during your time there and you do feel that.
This cottage is for you if you need a warm retreat, want an active holiday, are a family of four or two couples or one couple. You will feel at home here.

We have just returned from spending a week in Candlelight Cottage in Litton, Derbyshire. The cottage is warm, comfortable and very well equipped. It was refreshing to have basic items provided such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cooking oil etc. Simon, the owner, met us at the cottage, was welcoming and gave us a helpful tour round showing us how to manage the heating system etc. A tasty welcome pack was provided and fresh flowers placed around the cottage was a lovely homely touch - all making us feel very welcome. There is lots of local information, maps, walks and a good supply of books. The cottage is very well appointed on the village green and there are numerous walks from the door. It was great not to have to always use the car especially as weather was snowy. Having said this there are lots of places to visit in the locality including Eyam, Buxton and Bakewell. It was useful to have a village shop and we enjoyed Sunday lunch at the pub. We highly recommend this cottage.

We have had a fantastic week in Candlelight Cottage. It was our first trip to the Peak District and we could not have chosen a better location for exploring the Peaks. The cottage has everything you could wish for and is really cosy and comfortable. The Red Lion opposite is great and the village shop very handy.
We will certainly be returning to such a lovely "home from home"

Superb cottage, fully deserved the gold award rating. High quality furnishings and fittings obviously the result of immaculate attention to detail throughout, this includes the back yard with its plant pots and garden furniture. The welcome basket contained local products. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this cottage.

We have just returned from a week's stay at Candlelight Cottage and have had a wonderful time. On arrival, Simon (the owner) put us at ease by taking us on a tour of the cottage and talking about its facilities. He was also very knowledgeable about the local area and there is an abundance of information and maps available for guests to use, a real benefit to us as we had never visited the area before.

Having stayed in many self catering properties over the years, I can confidently say this was by far one of the best. The owners really have thought of everything! We will, I am sure, be returning to Candlelight Cottage.

I strongly recommend you contact the delightful owners and book a holiday in this superb cottage where I have recently enjoyed a week's holiday. On first reading the owners' description we were a little sceptical, having stayed in other holiday lets similarly described. In this instance, we agreed the cottage was accurately described and maybe even understated! I was slightly nervous after reading of the unsuitability of the stairs for young children (I am 76 years old, have a back problem and have lived in a bungalow for the past 40 years) but there is a very sturdy handrail making them very safe. Within 24 hours I managed the stairs easily. I challenge even the most house proud with OCD not to be satisfied with the cleanliness and comfort of this cottage and everything you could possibly wish for in a holiday home.
The village is peaceful, welcoming to tourists and not commercialised - a refreshing change. This also applies to the surrounding villages. There are numerous walks from the cottage and easy access to National Trust, English Heritage and other interesting centres. All of which can be found in a folder in the cottage together with all other information you may need. We were fortunate enough to visit Bakewell on Carnival Day and Buxton for Well Dressing.

We had a short break in Candlelight Cottage in April and thoroughly enjoyed our time there! Spotlessly clean, very well equipped, cosy and all with a lovely welcome. A perfect base for exploring the Peak District - we would happily stay again!

Stayed over the Easter week with husband and sons. The cottage was beautifully presented and there was everything you could need for your stay. Didn't use the cooking facilities as the pub across the green did great food. The location is perfect to access all the things you might want to do in the Peak District. The shops in Litton and neighbouring Tideswell mean you do not have to go far to get essentials or treats for your break. Intending to stay again.

It was an absolute pleasure to have experienced Candlelight Cottage. Spotlessly clean / comfortable / well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings. The cottage is a credit to the owners Jill & Simon; you immediately feel the warm cosy ambience of the place. It has been lovingly restored / refurbished; you couldn't wish for anything more. We received a wonderful welcome from Simon which was greatly appreciated. Candlelight Cottage is definitely a place we will be returning to frequently :)

A lovely cottage in a good location. Simon provided a good personal welcome and an introduction to the cottage and its facilities. It was very well equipped and is very comfortable. After a day out on the hills or in the dales, it was a joy to return to it. Having a choice of bedding was very welcome and the broadband allowed me to keep in touch with home.

My acid test when staying in a holiday cottage is to ask myself if I would go back. "Yes, definitely."

Review of Candlelight Cottage

This is an immaculate cottage, spotlessly clean, quality furniture and fittings, extremely well-equipped with everything you could need, warm, cosy and inviting. Jill gives a personal welcome and tour of the cottage and its facilities. In addition there is a very comprehensive file with information and instructions for all of the equipment from the CD player to the washing machine. Plus there is a further fully comprehensive file of information about the area and its attractions. There is great attention to detail to every aspect of this cottage.

The cottage is in the small, quiet village of Litton with a pub and a village shop. It is in a very central location in the heart of the Peak District with the towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock easily reached as well as the lovely Moors, Peaks and Dales in the area. Ideal for walkers or for anyone wanting a relaxing time visiting the lovely little towns and villages all around the area.

The property also has broadband wi-fi which was very reliable and a big bonus as far as I was concerned. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. Without doubt, the cleanest place we have ever stayed.

The cottage cannot be faulted. It is very warm, cozy and inviting and is immaculate. Every attention to your needs have been considered. We would easily recommend to our family and friends. Litton is ideally placed for most of the Peak attractions.

Recently spent a week at Candlelight Cottage with my husband and two children (aged 8 and 9) and highly recommend it to others. Lovely location in small town of Litton with easy walk to local pub and shop as well as being close to larger township of Tideswell. It was also a great location for exploring all of the Peak Districts attractions. We enjoyed a lovely welcome to the cottage by owners and the cottage itself was very comfortable and well appointed with all we needed - gorgeous Christmas decorations added to the atmosphere and children loved being able to see the town's Christmas trees and lights from their rooms.

We stayed at Candlelight Cottage with our son and his girlfriend for four days in November. The cottage is a delight. Spotlessly clean, everything you could wish for. Comfortable beds, and very cosy and warm. The kitchen ideal for four people with every item you could possibly want. Regrettably, the weather was not kind to us but we were able to walk the Litton Loop on one the of the days when the rain stopped. We thoroughly enjoyed the Red Lion pub within easy walking distance of the cottage. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Review of Candlelight Cottage

This was our fourth visit to Candlelight Cottage. It’s a fabulous place to stay and a real find!.
The personal welcome with guided tour including tips and advice, the welcome pack and beautiful fresh flowers all create an excellent first impression. Jill and Simon are very caring and friendly and keen to maintain the highest standards in all aspects of the cottage. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they will even arrange extras such as birthday cakes and helium balloons!
Candlelight Cottage is one of the most comfortable and immaculate cottages we have ever stayed in. It is well maintained, well equipped and has quality fixtures and fittings such as leather sofas and silk prints, not to mention the wonderfully warm AGA - (Scones, casseroles and slow roasted lamb cooked in the AGA are to die for!)

The cottage is fully equipped and very modern, whilst retaining its cosy feel, with the fire making it very warm and romantic in the evenings. There are beautiful scenic walks right from the door and the village pub, just across the green, serves delicious food. We loved the atmosphere and the open fires when we visited in wintertime. There is also a small village shop and we have found Litton a great base for visiting just about any part of the Peak District, because it is so central. Our favourite places are Bakewell, Chatsworth, (brilliant place to walk even if you are not into stately homes, also excellent farm shop) and Eyam, which are really close by. On this visit, we particularly enjoyed cycling on the Monsal Trail, just down the road from the cottage, and attending cultural events in Sheffield and Buxton.
The cottage is warm, cosy and always spotlessly clean. Everything is exactly as described on the cottage website and the booking process is always smooth and easy. There is loads of local information in the cottage on everything from places to visit, to walking routes. The village is pretty and the surrounding countryside is stunning.
Candlelight Cottage really is worth all its outstanding reviews on Tripadvisor, which is why we keep coming back! We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting five star accommodation in spectacular countryside at a really affordable price. We shall be back soon!

What a absolutely fabulous cottage! The personal welcome with a guided tour including tips and advice, the welcome pack and beautiful fresh flowers all created an excellent first impression. The surprise extras I had requested for my partner's birthday were also delivered with a smile. I can honestly say that this Is one of the most comfortable and immaculate cottages I have ever stayed in and there is nothing, in my opinion, that could be improved. Candlelight Cottage really is worth all its outstanding reviews.
