Overview

Situated in the historic cathedral quarter of Lincoln, this former bakery dating from the Victorian era has been transformed into a stylish yet informal restaurant and deli. Your meal can be enjoyed in an impressive vaulted garden room but while your surroundings may be decidedly rustic the food presents a much more sophisticated offering. The provenance of the ingredients is clear on the menu showing the restaurant's commitment to local producers. You could savour “Peterborough Game” toasted Sicilian pistachio stuffed quail, apricot mousse and caramelised pickled baby turnips to start before moving on to hay and fresh herbs slow roasted “Peter Lundgren” Gloucester Old Spot baby pig with various trimmings. The wine list is largely dominated by European varieties with some new world wines also available.

Reviews

Cosy atmosphere in old part of building with original ovens. Wonderful soup with a smokey hint like harissa followed by quail with such a wonderful array of vegetables it seemed a shame to spoil the artistry. However I was pleased I did, because it was divine. Overnight in a room over the back made it a perfect end to a busy week.

As usual The Old Bakery provided amazing food, an onion tarte tatin to die for amongst other lovely choices. A lovely way to celebrate my birthday. I love the new airy dining area at the front and excellent smooth, efficient service. Hard to choose between the walnut bread and the focaccia, always interesting breads to try.

We have just had a fantastic lunch; four of us including a vegetarian, mostly choosing different dishes and we could not fault them. The slow cooked pork for the main course was superb. We really like the service there, attentive but not all over you.

Great use of seasonal ingredients from local sources. Wine recommendations are always spot on, it is as if Ivan can read your palate. Service is attentive and knowledgeable about each dish. Inventive and ever changing menus.

I have eaten in many establishments in Lincoln and I have found this to be consistently the best quality, fresh local food. Very good value for money. Good personal service.

Every time we receive excellent service. There is a good range of unusual meals made from local ingredients. To us it is the best in Lincolnshire.
