A white washed 16th century house is home to this family run village pub and restaurant. Old oak beams, flagstone floors, blazing log fires and comfy leather armchairs create a traditional and welcoming atmosphere. Three separate dining areas, including an airy conservatory, are available as well as the garden in fine weather. The kitchen not only sources the freshest local seasonal ingredients, but is also aware of the importance of traceability and sustainability of these products. Bread is baked on the premises, and there is a smoking kiln. Popular dishes include Wienerschnitzel and a tasting platter of meat and fish smoked on the premises as well as traditional pub meals such as fish and chips. An extensive wine list, including many fine wines, offers choices both in taste and price while the hand-pulled beers include Timothy Taylors and Black Sheep.

From the warm welcome on arrival, attentive, friendly service throughout to the most amazing food, The Malt Shovel in Brearton is simply perfect!
The menu is varied with something for everyone - but I have to say the rib eye steak is outstanding! Our complimentary 'amuse bouche' was a pleasant surprise and gorgeous - this chef is a hidden gem - obviously has a real passion for his craft! The wine list is extensive with a good choice. The cosy atmosphere is lovely and the icing on the cake was our bill - far less than expected for our 3 courses plus wine! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food, wine served by a fab team!

Amazing amazing food, huge portions you will not leave hungry. Super friendly staff, warm, cosy and very relaxed atmosphere. Beer garden set in a beautiful village close to a village green where children can play. Would highly recommend a visit (once you have been you will be back)

We had booked for a birthday dinner for my grandmother who doesn't go out to eat very often, and it can turn out to more of a chore than an enjoyable meal out. Having said that, it has to have been one of the best family meals out we have had, very friendly staff who made us all feel welcome, the food was so tasty we all had more than we should of, but it was worth it, the menu had something for everyone on it, even something for the adventurous types. My grandmother can't stop telling us how much she enjoyed herself. Will definitely be returning

Second visit to The Malt Shovel - this time on our way back home to Scotland on our anniversary - fully satisfied the occasion. Fabulous and friendly group of staff, a chef who knows what he's doing and a relaxed cosy pub atmosphere. Sea Bass special hit the mark and the Greek Infused Lamb was perfect for a serious red meat eater. Looking forward to our next visit already.

We booked for 8 people at the last minute and we were accommodated with excellent service. The food was really good with quite a few specials. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and with tasty desserts as well and good beers we would highly recommend it.

The staff were very friendly and very hard working. We ordered the pie, which was really tasty, we didn't have room left for a sweet. When we are next in the area, we will certainly return

We visited on an evening with the family dog. The pub put us in the conservatory for our meal which was warm and welcoming. The staff were really helpful and attentive. Food was fantastic. Highly recommended!!
