The Lamplighter Dining - Rooms
Established for over two decades, The Lamplighter offers a choice of dining options. On a chilly night, head for the cosy bar where you'll find the open fire blazing, or if you're in the mood for a full on gastronomic experience try the handsomely appointed high ceilinged Victorian restaurant. There's a veranda and sunken terrace for al fresco dining when the weather's agreeable too. There's a comforting feel to many of the dishes here - start with haggis bon bons, with English mustard mayonnaise followed by venison marinated in red wine, gin, bay leaves & orange served with herb mash and finish with a Cartmel sticky chocolate pudding and chocolate sauce. The carve-yourself Sunday roasts complete with Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, carrot and swede, cauliflower cheese, creamed mash, roast potatoes cooked in dripping and gravy are legendary.
