This 16th century Kent coaching inn has been given a sympathetic contemporary make over, which contrasts original features such as oak beams and open fires with tasteful floral wall coverings and banquette seating. An equal amount of care and attention has been lavished on the daily changing menu that showcases simply prepared local free range, organic and sustainable ingredients. Even the beer comes from the Westerham brewery, less than fives miles away. Start with Ham Hock and parsley terrine with an unusual and refreshing marinated nectarine and cinnamon salad, followed by fillet of sea-bream with brown shrimp and caper butter, or try the house burger made with Ashdown Forest venison. Finish with a traditional and comforting apple and blackberry crumble with crème anglaise.
