Overview

Welcome to the Captain's Galley' at the no-nonsense fishing harbour of Scrabster, gateway port to the north Atlantic and Scandinavia. Our ethical policy (copies available to read) details our commitment towards all aspects of fish conservation and other environmental issues. Our close relationship with like minded local fisherman enables us to source an extensive multi-specie range of the freshest top quality seafood in season, and from sea areas where the stocks are sustainable. Because of its freshness I don't cook our fish beyond medium, so if your dish lacks a “piping hot” appearance, please trust me. It's so fresh our Asian friends call it “sashimi fresh” and prefer it not cooked. If you feel denied your “favourite seafood dish”, spare a thought. All species, be it shellfish, demersal (white fish) or Pelagic (oily fish), have a spawning cycle and lay eggs at a certain time every year. If it's heavy in roe and out of condition, we rather it stays in the sea to continue contributing to the stocks and be enjoyed on another day. By showing that small bit of understanding and trust in us, we in turn wish you an unforgettable dining experience, while you play a simple yet important role in the recovery of what was once amongst the most prolific fishing grounds in the world. Enjoy! Jim & Mary Cowie and the crew
