Overview

Located in a handsome Victorian building close to Liverpool's historic docks, this rather grand dining room offers all day modern European dining. Chandeliers, polished wood floors and huge arched windows create an elegant yet relaxed mood. An evening meal here might begin with seared scallops with butternut squash puree and beetroot foam and continue with slow roast Goosnargh duck breast with mulled pears, celeriac and rosti potato. Trilogies are a favourite device and might take the form of a salmon starter served as smoked salmon blinis, poached salmon with rouille and salmon tartare with new potatoes or as a beef main course with roast fillet, braised shin and oxtail jus with horseradish mash.

I popped in to Ziba last night for a meal and on arrival was warmly met by Donna, who promptly served me with a drink and who then gave me a menu to review whilst I was sat at the bar. Shortly afterwards Tara came in and she was every bit as welcoming and friendly as Donna had been. After a short while they took my order, having given me lots of excellent advice on the various dishes on the menu, including the fact there was a substitution on the potatoes with the rump steak. In the end I went with the soup of the day (tomato) and the rump steak. When my soup was served in the restaurant it looked delicious, smelt fantastic and was served with a lovely focaccia roll which had some wonderful aged balsamic vinegar on top of it. Both the soup and bread tasted every bit as good as they smelt and looked. When my main course arrived it looked even better as it was beautifully presented. Perhaps more importantly the steak was cooked exactly as I had asked it to be, and was melt in the mouth smooth. The baby tomatoes, cooked with a red pepper sauce were also delicious. After my meal I enjoyed my coffee back at the bar where again both Donna and Tara ensured I was well looked after. They even kindly introduced me to a couple of their regular (local) customers, so that I had someone to chat to. Always nice when you are travelling on your own and the guys very kindly gave me some excellent advice on where to visit today. Finally, when I departed, both Donna and Tara gave me a warm goodbye and said "Do come back again soon". Well, that's something I will most certainly be doing - as I plan to eat there again tonight when I intend trying the goats cheese starter and chicken main course. Finally I should make mention of the decor of the place - its great and on a cold January night when a very strong and cold north wind was blowing in from across the Mersey it was lovely and warm.

We attended here for a private event which included a hot buffet. It took place in the Ziba Restaurant and surrounding function rooms, which is in The Racquet Club Hotel, a lovely victorian building from 1857. Nothing was complicated, the food was very good, in particular the mini steak pies were delicious, so much so I went back for more. The layout, decor and comfortable chairs all contributed to a delightful, relaxing evening. Sadly I just could not understanding the contemporary artwork consisting of a painting of pieces of meat, It is probably talked about by many who dine here. The staff were all friendly and attentive throughout the evening, I would not hesitate to eat in the Ziba Restaurant.

Great old building partly and tastefully modernised restaurant. Grand is probably the best word. Terrific greeting and sat by window next to a radiator which was lovely and warm on a freezing night! The waitress was quite delightful and explained carefully the menu. Very calm and peaceful. The food was quite excellent. Dont expect a huge plateful like a Crown Carvery - Its flavoursome dining and taste and presentation is important. The whole evening was an absolute delight in every respect. A great place for a good meal or a nice quiet drink in sumptuous surroundings. Really good.

Three of us had a birthday meal there. A good choice for a special meal. The 'Racquet Club' also has function rooms with very good offers on at the moment for wedding lunches and receptions. A splendid setting for such events I would think. We chose the special menu which we found was excellent value. All of us had the belly of pork as a main. Cooked to perfection. There was only one member of staff on for the evening (we were the only people in, which seemed a shame). The service was attentive and efficient. We're all look forward to our next visit there.

We dined here using a Living Social Deal, my Wife had a starter of smoked salmon and salmon mousse with crayfish in a lemon mayonnaise, I had black pudding and belly pork with balls of golden and red beetroot. We had mains of sirloin steak and pork chop served with chorizo mash, boiled potatoes and vegetables washed down with a nice bottle of merlot. The food and service was very good.

Have visited Ziba on many occasions and have always enjoyed the experience. As part of a group or a meal for two this is a beautiful experience. The restaurant is classy the waitress staff have a good knowledge of the food and the food and presentation itself is wonderful. The presentation of the food by the chef is pure class and a firm favourite with me, my family and friends. 10/10

My wife and l went for lunch on Tuesday 5.4.2016 (we had a voucher deal). The food was very good and served by a very helpful and courteous waiter. We would certainly go again in the future.
