Overview

Ruddy walls, rugged beams, sturdy tables - subtle it ain't. But what this converted farmhouse nestled between Brecon and Hay on Wye has is character in abundance. Owners Charles and Edmund Inkin bang the local, seasonal drum with more integrity than most. Vegetables from the restaurants extensive kitchen are spotlighted with a menu of their own that might include a salad of “Griffin heirloom tomatoes”. A list of classics offers local delicacies such as smoked salmon from the Black Mountains smokery, Crickhowell or Welsh rib-eye steak with triple chips and béarnaise. Stay over in one of seven comfortable rooms and enjoy homemade bread and preserves for breakfast.

Where is The Felin Fach Griffin located?

Take the A470 north from the Coryton interchange all the way to Brecon.  At the roundabout take the fourth exit for Abergavenny and Hereford.

After three miles, and the next roundabout, take the second exit for the A470 for Hereford.  The Griffin is on the left hand side after four miles.  To reach it, take the left for Felin Fach.

What cuisine is on offer at The Felin Fach Griffin?

The Welsh Borders are home to farmers producing great ingredients.  Welsh beef and lamb, game from local estates, cheeses from world renowned dairies.  And, like so many things, food is best kept simple.  Menus change daily and seasonally.  In winter you might have venison from the nearby Welsh Venison Centre, or in summer Welsh lamb with peas picked that morning from the kitchen garden.

What is the signature dish at The Felin Fach Griffin?

Black Mountains Smokery smoked salmon, cucumber, Granny Smith, cabbage

Lamb belly, peas, courgette, fondant potato

Huntsham Farm Middle White sausages, mash, greens

What makes a meal at The Felin Fach Griffin unique?

The menu is not long.  Never more than 7 starters or main courses.  All driven by what suppliers bring to the back door.  Fish from Cornwall.  Meat from the lowland hills. Greenery from the garden and from Penpont.
