Went for a pre theatre meal which is very much the business here as close to the festival theatre. The menu was varied with interesting ingredients with every dish.
The homemade bread was a good start followed by a deliciously presented Tuna dish. We also had a really simple homemade spaghetti dish with mint, tomato, courgette and capers which was really tasty.
The service was really friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back.

To say I have found one of Chichester’s hidden secrets sounds a bit cheesy but I can’t believe I’ve lived here for over 7 years and never been. So many times my wife and I have scratched ours heads, looking for somewhere nice to eat ... So I finally booked at table at the F&F for our 16th wedding anniversary. It was amazing!

The food, the ambiance, the service - everything was exceptional! They even gave us a complimentary anniversary dessert. We were blown away and we’re definitely coming back!!

It’s not cheap but I would say it is very good value for money the menu was quite small but apparently it changes regularly and every dish is special... and beautifully presented. Definitely have the belly pork starter, slow cooked beef, the scallops... it’s all brilliant.

Please could you pass on our thanks to Sam, Janet and the team. The food was outstanding- just as delicious as in the restaurant which must be hard to achieve and everyone did a brilliant job. As Sam predicted- there was no shortage! So many people commented on the food and service which played a big part in the success of the evening. Thank you all so much.

Great choice , I love the fact you can go for the fixed set menu, very tasty and great value or the optional menu with a choice of three choices at a fixed price or the à la carte. I've been quite a few times and the options are always new, tasty and interesting. Two friends who had been washed out of the Revival opted to pop into Chichester for lunch instead and dragged me along, so I suggested the Field and Fork. I know they enjoyed it.

Not only is the food great but the noise levels are great, no noisy background music so you can hear yourself speak. Great place to chat and lunch, not tried dinner yet!

We had a really nice meal - the dishes contained some quirky ingredients but the finished dishes were great - very innovative! Lovely relaxed surroundings, a real fire, friendly staff - and no problem getting us out in good time for the theatre.

I regularly visit Chichester and only recently found this restaurant, the food was all excellent and really nice service. There wasn't anything we could have complained about and only wished it was more busy! We have also been to Amelie and Friends and a few other recommended places in the area but this is by far the best and we will be definitely be returning on our next visit!

Wowzer, what a find. I’m not going to bore you readers with descriptive text about this gem. Go there and just experience it yourself. Even on a quiet evening, which it was this place has atmosphere and class. Food - just so good. Service - ditto. Great wine list too. And finally - starter and main with a great red wine just over £70!! A bargain. I love this place after just one visit. I’d travel to Chichester just to eat here again.

Friendly, clean and efficient, with delicious food. We had the "Market Menu", three courses from a set menu, all 6 of us very happy with food, and all served in time to go to the theatre. We were in the "garden room" part of the restaurant which was light and airy, so very pleasant. A most successful choice.

Careful cooking of fish (crab, scallops, halibut) with some finesse and originality.
Good English cheeseboard to share. Short wine list not over priced. We went a la carte as it was a celebratory occasion but the cost was not exorbitant.
Service unobtrusive as was the piped music.
A pleasant dining room but not many customers after the theatre crowd had left. It's up to locals to support what is probably their best restaurant.

Found Field & Fork on TripAdvisor on the train down to Chichester. Got a table as a walk in and choose tbe fixed price two course dinner for £18. Including one drink each the bill was still under £50.

Really excellent food, beautifully presented and low key but prompt and polite service.

Spent a delightful evening here with family for a special birthday. Parking is tricky, on street evening parking is available - but go early ! Nice greeting by staff, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is welcoming. We sat in the conservatory part, which was light and airy, and were very comfortable. Two menus to choose from: set menu for two or three courses - good value and choice - and a la carte which was also excellent. Food was delivered quickly, without fuss, was delicious and very nicely presented.
If I lived nearer to Chichester, I would definitely return here time and time again.

Had an excellent 3 course set "market Menu" lunch here for my birthday in June, Really imaginative menu & though (understandably) limited choice we would have ordered the lot! Small portion but perfect for lunchtime & the Pineapple & Basil Soup with Mango Ice cream was a sensational dessert! Service was excellent - prompt & friendly & although the fixed price has since gone up, this charming restaurant must be heartily recommended.

it was our first visit to Field and Fork. We were on our way to FIDDLER N THE ROOF and we were delighted. I found the set menu superb: I had roasted quail with varied and beautifully cooked vegetables and trimmings followed by a gooseberry tart and ginger/vanilla ice cream. My husband had the meat platter. He loved it. The meal was delicious and the service excellent. We felt very welcome. We had plenty of time to get to the theatre, yet we never felt rushed. And our table was near the garden area and quite delightful.

We met Sam at an evening wine & dinner event at Tinwood Vineyard and enjoyed his food so much we wanted to find a reason to visit his restaurant in Chichester. What better way than to celebrate our 7th anniversary.....
It completely lived up to our expectations, great summer food, perfectly balanced menu, beautifully presented, attentive yet informal service and such good value. Couldn't ask for more. Oh, and the sun shone all evening!
We will be back for sure.......

Drove down from London to have lunch with local friends. It was their first visit to F&F so none of us had any expectations. A lovely setting in the town, with light and airy decor.

We all had the set 3-course Market Menu which rivalled a lot of fancy restaurants we've been to but at an amazingly reasonable price. Beautifully presented gazpacho to start with a yummy pork main and a great sweet course to finish. A couple of bottles of very drinkable Picpoul, and all was well with the world! Very good and friendly service as well. Hy, will be back soon.

We visited Field & Fork for the first time yesterday and it won't be the last. We needed to eat before a funeral in the Cathedral and wanted somewhere that provided quick but quality food. This restaurant provided both! We all went for a £12 three course set menu (I forget what they called it but it wasn't the Market Menu) which was completely satisfying and delicious without being too filling.

The service was discrete and efficient and the ambience very tasteful. If we are ever back in Chichester we will definitely visit again.

Good choice on menu both meat and fish. Have to say the Pork Belly with Smoked Eel and Crackling was a highlight. Party of 5 and all diners gave top marks for their choices.
Good wine to accompany and smooth attentive service.
This has to be Chichesters No 1 Restaurant.

We went for dinner and enjoyed a lovely meal. My husband had the Set Market menu which was excellent value for £23.50. It included an asparagus entree, duck with beans which was delicious and a wonderful dessert of chocolate and strawberry mousse. The best dessert I have tasted in years. I had the scallop entree and the trout, both were excellent. All food is beautifully cooked and tasty and interesting.

This is a real gem of a restaurant. For lunch on Thursday we had a choice of a set menu and a la carte. We ended up eating from both. One of the nicest lunches I've ever had and the menu choices, which change frequently, were exiting and varied.
But the real surprise is the quality and inventiveness of the food! It's simply stunning, not trendy for trendies sake, but cleverly designed and thought out food combinations and flavours that work and prepared to perfection. The staff are knowledgeable and experienced and can confidently chat through the menu and wines.

I am a Coeliac and when I booked the afternoon of my visit I was reassured that catering for me would not be a problem. Upon arrival the waiter was attentive, polite and helpful. I was served warmed gluten free bread (which I later found out that they went out for after I called), great standard of champagne and wine and a fabulous menu that was detailed for any particular diet.

The food was out of this world, how had I not thought of going here before? A lovely atmosphere, outstanding service and attentive staff. I had the nicest evening which compelled me to write this review.

Booked a table for 8 on Saturday night, and mentioned one of our party was a vegan. They couldn`t have done more, very accommodating, he was able to pick from several different dishes, and they even cooked one of them in olive oil rather than their normal butter receipt. Rest of the meals, atmosphere, and service was just great, a real gem, will certainly be returning, and will certainly recommend it, 5 star`s all round.

Booked lunch here based totally on the recommendation of local residents. What a fantastic surprise with a relatively small, back-street restaurant providing a beautifully prepared set menu three-course lunch for around £12 and a limited choice lunch for only £18. This has to be one of the best-value local restaurants in the area. Service was welcoming, efficient and quick, and we were there left without any pressure to finish a leisurely lunch. The wine list is well designed, with a good variety of reasonably price bottles, carafes or individual glasses. Another pleasant surprise in a age of over-priced wine lists. If you are in the area, follow our experience and track this place down. You will not be disappointed.

Like other reviewers we had often eaten at Amelie & Friends when we were in Chichester and since it closed last year we have been looking for something similar and we have certainly found it at Field & Fork which we thought was even better than Amelie's. The menu is excellent and whilst they have a few good pre theatre menu as we had plenty of time we chose from the a la carte menu.. My wife started with the quails egg and followed that with the John Dory both of which were excellent. I had the scotch egg and duck. Again both were excellent. The wine list offers a wide range of wines. We chose the Viognier which excellent value. For desserts we shared the trio of Fork & Field desserts -- again excellent. The service was prompt , efficient but more importantly friendly and helpful. A lovely meal

Considering we ate at 5.30, before going to the theatre, the restaurant still had a very warm, convivial atmosphere. This is an attractive old building, well-designed internally, and the conservatory area is a light, airy and attractive place to eat. The staff were welcoming, efficient and maintained an excellent balance of service: attentive without being fussy. There is no need to worry about getting to the theatre on time, as the food is served promptly.

Leaving the best to last, the quality of the food is absolutely exceptional. The scallop starter crammed a massive amount of flavour into a small shell of sliced scallop. Whilst it could have overwhelmed, this was a very subtle dish and a clever piece of cooking. The lobster sauce combined really well with the sea vegetables, complementing the parmesan glazed haddock, to take a simple piece of fish to a great level. Field and Fork combines a bistro atmosphere with fine dining; we simply wish we lived closer!

Delightful, creative starter (although we would have loved just a little more), excellent main course - huge lamb dish and delicious fish with seasonal accompaniments. Really tasty and beautifully cooked. Desserts were a little dairy heavy - the chocolate fondant was standard, but the beetroot ice cream was delicious and really lifted the dish.

Service was quick, friendly and efficient. Great evening. We will be back.

One of our group was gluten free and they went out of their way to provide additional items for consumption. Also provided extra fresh gluten free bread when asked for as first lot was so good.

Following the closure of our previous pre-theatre source of sustenance we tried the Field and Fork after reading reviews, and have been back multiple times. Excellent and friendly service, nice surroundings and wonderful food. We have not had a single disappointing dish, have always received our meals in a timely but unrushed way such that we had plenty of time to eat and wander down to the Festival Theatre, and it has worked out less expensive than eating at CFT.

I am not often moved to submit a review but I have just had the very best value, excellent in every way Lunch that I can remember anywhere. The set menu offered a 'take it or leave it' three courses for £12! Everything, from the starter of chicken liver pate with fig puree, through the mains of honeyed ham shank with white beans, fennel and green salsa, to the pudding of mini 'Tarte Tatin' with vanilla ice cream, was delicious. There are loads of other choices on the Market and A La Carte menus, if one wasn't taken with today's set offering but I for one was happy with what was on offer. The food is amazing, the staff are delightful and I am now ready for a little sleep!

Definitely not your standard restaurant menu, it's much more interesting than that. Which, of course, may not be to everyone's taste. The service is efficient but not intrusive and the conservatory is a little tired. But probably the most inventive menu around (I've never seen a crème brûlée done that way). I hope that they prosper, they certainly deserve to.

The staff were friendly and efficient, the conservatory light and airy, the menus looked great, with local and seasonal ingredients, but what about the food?
Absolutely perfect! Partner had smoked duck breast with aubergine, pistachio, pomegranate - lovely flavours and very pretty.
Roasted rump of lamb was sweet, tender and perfectly cooked, served with grilled radicchio (flavours of a Greek barbecue), polenta and salsa verde.
Dessert: the pannacotta was perfect in flavour and texture, with thin slices of pineapple and a delicious poppy-seed tuile. Excellent coffee, and a very reasonable bill for the wonderful food - can't comment on wine as we had water and organic Devon cider.
Thank you Field and Fork for a wonderful food experience. Can't wait to return.

We've eaten here a few times and its probably the best restaurant in Chichester. The food is a delight - imaginative with interesting combinations (without being twiddly) and Sam clearly knows his ingredients and flavours. VERY accomplished cooking and well presented. The service is friendly and very efficient (without being over attentive or fussy). The dining room is great too - different spaces so in a way you can chose your mood (sunny conservatory or cosy real fire etc) and it feels quite intimate. It always feels calm and unhurried (but if you want a pre-theatre meal they manage it well and there is no anxiety of having to rush away). A talented and professional team in the kitchen and front of house.

In Chichester for a weekend away and picked Field & Fork based on Trip Advisor reviews.

Food was high quality, well prepared with skill and attention to detail. Flavours very good and portion size reflected quality rather than quantity. We had Beef and Monkfish for our mains - both were very tasty. Choc mud pie was good for dessert, but cheese board was better - very good selection of quality flavours.

Wine was good.

Staff friendly and welcoming.

A group of nine of us booked for lunch here - my first visit. I and one other had the £12 set three course lunch - no options, but each course sounded good to me. The others had various choices from the main set lunch menu that had three otpions for each course - £18 for two courses I think. My lunch was delicious and incredible value. Modest portions, but that that was just what I wanted. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy what they had chosen. The service was unhurried but efficient. Located in a charming old building in City centre, only a short distance from the theatre.

A lovely restaurant located in a side street next to the Harbour inn hotel, and weather permitting an easy walk from the theatre. The menu was innovative and had obviously been carefully thought out because there certainly seemed to be choice to cater for most tastes. My wife's scallops were done to perfection and her pearl barley risotto with goats cheese and parsley pesto was excellent. I enjoyed the monkfish tail.
Only 5 deserts to choose from but again, well thought out. The wine choices were reasonably priced, and the service was very efficient with helpful staff always on hand.

The conservatory is a great location to have your meal. A great deal of thought and care has gone into the food. We were offered four types of roll, two of which were quite unusual and very moreish. The tartlet starters were excellent. My main course was an Italian vegetarian dish, which was full of flavour. The house Sicilian red wine, Nero d'avola, was great value and good. I was willing to spend more, but that was not necessary. We had the lunchtime market menu were £18.50 for two courses and £23.50 for three.

We went to this very nice restaurant with friends who live in the center of Chichester. I'm not sure we would have found it by ourselves as it's tucked away down a side street. It is certainly worth looking for though. Chichester is blessed with a number of excellent restaurants but we thought this one was different. The food was really imaginative and the wine list was good as well. We'll be back again for sure.

Sell out evening on Friday, great time was had by all! A journey from Rose to Vintage champagnes, with short talks to teach us what and why. Deborah and I were lucky enough to have had charming and interesting neighbours on our table. Plates of tantalizing tastes to match the bubbles presented by seamlessly professional front of house team on a busy busy fun night. If you haven't been already, go and eat here.

Sam Mahoney, the owner and chef at Field and Fork, organised a special Japanese themed dinner at his restaurant in Chichester a couple of weeks ago for the local Chaînes des Rôtisseurs Bailliage. Sam told us he had spent a year working in Japan when he was younger and had come to love and appreciate Japanese food. I also had lived and worked in Japan in the late 1960’s and was looking forward very much to sampling his dishes.

We were not disappointed. Among the dishes we enjoyed were Shellfish Chawab Mushi (a steamed savory egg custard with lobster, crab, langoustines, mushrooms ,soy and dashi) which was delicious. As a main dish we had fallow deer with smoked eel, grilled rice cake and sour plums. The five course meal was accompanied by five different sakes. Desert was Iced Yuzu Parfait, Daiginjo Sake jelly, Green Tea Ice Cream and Sesame Tuille. Japanese cooking (and sake), or at least the UK version, has certainly come a long way since I lived in Japan. The dinner was delicious and served perfectly in a bright comfortable restaurant.

This was the first time I had eaten at the Field and Fork. A glance at Sam’s normal menus reflects a more western food offering in his restaurant. If the food served is to the standard of our meal, a dinner here will always be a pleasure.

Lunch with a friend today. Restaurant was surprisingly very quiet and therefore lacking a little in atmosphere. Could have been a problem if you were lunching with a "date". My friend and I did not have an issue as we were talking non stop. The food was absolutely superb - the best meal I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. I would have really liked to have licked the plates but manners prevailed.

F&F is housed in one of the older buildings in the town centre. The service was very friendly and efficient; the wine list offered variety from local Tinwood wines, to more classical French or new world. We chose the Pouilly Fume, which was excellent. The food is creative and extremely well presented even down to the dishes upon which the food is placed. This is one of the best restaurants in town.

We went to Chichester for the night to celebrate my partner's 54th birthday. We were recommended this restaurant by our Airbnb hostess. It was a Saturday night and they fitted us in. The staff were very friendly and warm and the food was fantastic. Our hostess is a restaurant critic and described it as the best restaurant in Chichester! We needed no further recommendation and she was absolutely right. The staff even decorated my partner's dessert with candles for his birthday. We will most certainly return.

Our second visit to this great restaurant. Welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. I had sweet potato falafel and my husband had a beetroot, Roquefort and walnut tart. We both had beef rib - slow cooked and served with tenderstem greens and creamy mashed potato. We had the trio of desserts to share - which was the perfect ending to the meal. They do wine dinners and we have just reserved for their final one of the year in 4th November - all courses will be paired with champagnes. Can't wait!

The venue was quiet, probably as it was mid week. We had a dairy free member of the party and the restaurant had annotated a menu for us, which was very helpful. There was an excellent choice of food, which is all locally sourced. Presentation was very good and portions were generous. Background music was just right and did not interfere with our chatter. Service was quick, efficient and discrete.

A strange chill comes over you as you stroll through Chichester looking at one pub after another and gradually realising that not only is the food at each place identical but even the laminated menus are the same. Just as we were starting to think we'd wandered into Stepford Wives, we came across The Field and Fork on a quiet street near the pretty park. A series of Charming small dining rooms with one opening onto the little garden on a warm evening provided a expectant atmosphere matched by the food and wine. My friend had a bargain with a pea and ham hock terrain and fish fillet main for £18, and I spent about £10 more for velvety parfait and a fish main with perfectly matched salsa and samphire. So worth hunting this restaurant out - its central but tucked away. Desserts looked delicious but we had no room - next time.

Lovely restaurant within a nice setting, including a conservatory looking out into a small patio. Service is friendly and helpful, and the food is up to high standards. The cuisine is modern British, at quite affordable prices. Last time I was there I had a delicious salad of apples, fennel, feta, and garden herbs as a starter, followed by an excellent sole as the main. Nice selection of open wines a bonus.

Lovely meal with choices to suit most palates and a good value set menu for those on a budget or in a hurry. The waitress was charming - friendly, informative and efficient. There when we wanted her and not fussing over us unnecesssarily. Each course was hot, well-presented and delivered at exactly the right times. The other diners were largely there for pre-theatre meals but there was no uncomfortable rush or hurry for them. I was delighted that they serve a trio of small desserts (all delicious) as I can never decide what to have for pudding - I wish more restaurants did this! We sat in the conservatory area which was delightful.

The Field and Fork have a weekly menu (2 courses for around £19.00) and an A La Carte menu. All choices are guaranteed to please the most discerning of palates and there is a good selection of wines. We had the roast rib of beef which was, dear reader, absolutey scrummy, it came with creamed potato and veg with delicious gravy. Mmmmmmm, I could eat it again now :-) For pudding I had the chocolate brownie and fruit and my husband had the 4 local cheeseboard. In total, including a bottle of wine at £24.00 and 2 decaff coffees we paid £84.00 (approx). Expensive for us but it was lovely, we could always have gone for the 2 course option.

We have used this eatery several times now and its hard to beat for style and gourmet food. Its at the top end of fine dining but well worth it. The food is always excellent and accompanied by good wines etc. Service is friendly and efficient although you have to accept that as everything is cooked to order then you need to allow the time.

Chanced upon F&F quite by accident and glad we did.
Friendly, attentive (but not overbearing) service, with concise but interesting menu and everything we had was delicious. (mozzerella/ scotch eggs + spinach/lime panne Cotta and from the market menu, beef croquettes/ goats cheese gnocchi/chocolate parfait).
Great value and a delightful experience.
Having a lot of passing trade for pre theatre food could make lesser restaurants rest on their laurels, but not this one!
Highly recommended.

I had the crispy lamb and my wife had quail and we would definitely recommend that you tried them. A great find.

Slow Pork with Eel and garnish for flavour more than show.

This restaurant was recommended to us and it didn't disappoint! Wonderful food, cooked well and presented well. I had the John Dory which was cooked to perfection and the Lobster sauce that came with it was soo delicious that I couldn't waste a drop and mopped it all up with a lovely little brown roll....well the French do it lol. The vegetables were cooked a little crisp which I also love. My husband had the pork loin chop stuffed with black pudding which was tender and came with a tasty jus, we both loved it. Service was good and the staff were friendly. Great central location.

We've been lunching at F&F for years now, originally at the Pallant Gallery, then when they moved to the Brasserie at the Minerva theatre, and now at Guidhall Street. Looking back, every single meal has been delightful. Most times, we go for the fixed-price market menu, which offers a frequently-changing choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts. The food is always interesting, always fresh, always a treat for the eye as well as the mouth. Combine that with a good-value wine list, a pleasant sunny location, and service which is as warm and friendly as it is unostentatious and efficient, and you've got the recipe for a pretty-well perfect meal. Goodness only knows why F&F isn't in the Good Food Guide, but if that means we can always get a table... that's fine by us. We can't recommend F&F too highly.

Tucked away down a little side street, you could easily miss Field & Fork and once inside it does look quite plain and unassuming - don't be put off - the food completely makes up for the lack of atmosphere (though if you are able to sit in the Conservatory it is a bit cosier). The menu is fairly small (always an excellent sign) and there are really interesting combinations of flavours. Small portions but it isn't that kind of a restaurant. Instead you get beautifully presented in a 'fine dining' style and absolutely stunning flavours that really make you take notice of what you're eating and appreciate the combinations of ingredients! Fairly pricey but worth every penny - this is not an everyday restaurant and you expect to pay for food of this quality! A must try if you're a foodie!

Despite being local I've never been here before, I've always looked at and admired the menu but never made the connection until now. This is probably what you would call a good 'loca'l restaurant. It looks nice, the service is good etc, it was full of happy people and it is nice. The Pork Belly b& Smoked Eel starter is excellent, it sold out shortly after we ordered. The roast local Partridge was excellent for someone who eats game regularly. The Spanish influenced Red Mullet promised much but looked disappointing on the plate and really didn't have the muscle to impress. Puddings were excellent. Service was attentive and quiet i.e.very good. This is a good restaurant, go there you will like the food

Spontaneous visit to Chichester on a very miserable day in late October was cheered-up immensely when we found this lovely little restaurant tucked away down a side street on what seemed to be the edge of the shopping area of town. There was a welcoming log fire in one area but we decided to sit in the conservatory. It was far from busy with only one other table occupied when we arrived and probably another 3 by the time we left but it was Thursday in half term week.
We both chose from the fixed price Market menu (£17.95 for 2 courses, £22.95 for 3) which probably changes on a regular basis depending what is fresh in the market. I had the red mullet on toast to start followed by pheasant with figs and celeriac puree - both were comforting and delicious. The wine list was short but included all the favourites with many available by the glass. A tasty variety of breads were also served.
Will definitely return here on the rare occasions we visit Chichester.

We were recommended this restaurant by friends and have to say we were very happy that we dined at Field and Fork

We enjoyed a £17.95 two course meal each where we shared a starter and shared a desert, and each had a main. The mullet starter was amazing, mains were excellent, gnocchi and pheasant and a divine truffle cake for desert.

This is a fair size restaurant with three different rooms all nicely furnished, the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We loved it.

Wine by the glass was of good quality, certainly the best meal we have had in Chichester

Went for a couples anniversary meal and was not disappointed. The restaurant is simply decorated but with a lovely feel to it. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient and the food was sublime. We ordered from the Al a Carte menu and the quality screamed throughout. Wonderful local ingredients expertly cooked and presented and great value for money too.

A number of other diners were in for a pre-theatre meal and you could tell the staff were geared up for those on a time limit.

Over all a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I would highly recommend a visit.
