Reviews

First visit for Sunday lunch for quite a long time. We were welcomed by the friendly and polite restaurant staff. It was busy due to it being Easter Sunday. We ordered Crispy Duck Egg with black pudding, asparagus & Hollandaise sauce, and Fish Cake with pea puree & tartare sauce for starters; Roast Beef plus trimmings, and Guinea Fowl with pigs in blankets for mains; and Strawberry Panacotta with raspberry sorbet & honeycomb, and warm Carrot Cake with toffee sauce and ice cream for desserts. Everything was delicious I can't say more than that. The service was excellent, our food was hot when it arrived at the table, and the waiting time between each course was just right. After the meal, you help yourself to as much coffee or tea as you wish and can spend time relaxing in the lounge enjoying the views. One of the lovely things about this hotel is its location, and the restaurant and lounge make the most of the beautiful views of the Borrowdale Valley and the village of Grange. We had a table at the window and were treated to seeing the sheep with their lambs in the fields and the various birds that are constantly on the feeders that the hotel have in the gardens. The decor, furnishings, and ambiance at the Borrowdale Gates make for a lovely relaxing experience. The staff are professional and friendly at the same time. The hotel has recently been sold to new owners, and I hope they don't change anything about it because it is excellent just as it is. We have not stayed overnight because we live within easy traveling distance, but if I wanted a quality hotel in this area I would definitely stay here.

We went for Sunday lunch and everything was perfect from beginning to end.. The drinks before lunch were just perfect in a very relaxing lounge with superb views up the valley. Our 3 course lunch was taken in the dinning area again with superb garden and valley views. The food was so tasty and plentiful and we thoroughly enjoyed every course. The service was spot on with the waitress making sure we were really well looked after. We have known a Chris and Mike from other Lakeland hotels and their input must be a massive contribution to a wonderful lunch experience. We have dined in various hotels in the Borrowdale Valley for over 40 years and this visit to the Borrowdale Gates is the most memorable to date.. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely lunch !!!! We will soon return. Stayed October 2016, travelled as a couple

“Ladies who lunch!” 5 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 days ago NEW We r four ladies who enjoy lunch together a few times per year. We love to critique our lunch and venue. Borrowdale Gates did not disappoint! From the minute we walked in staff were attentive. the surroundings lovely with a table by the window and we had very comfortable chairs! Oh my was delish , with select toons such as crab, pigeon breast and a delightful fishcake to start. Main was equally as good with roast beef or pork or sea bream on a rissoto. Avoid range of dessert followed with complementary coffee in abundance and lovely surroundings to sit and enjoy coffee and chat! Top marks from us! Stayed October 2016, travelled with friends

Excellent staff, excellent view, excellent food We stayed for three nights and knew just what to expect as we had stayed twice before. We were not disappointed, friendly staff and a comfortable room with a lovely view and a balcony where we could also watch the birds visit the feeders. The meals were top quality, we eat fish but not meat and there was plenty of choice. We were really pleased when we were offered a vegetarian choice of appetiser on the one evening that the planned one was meat. Breakfast was excellent too with a good range of fish dishes plus the full English one would expect. Buffet service for fruit, cereals, croissants etc. was always well stocked. Loved our visit

We visited yesterday afternoon for an afternoon tea. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by the gentleman on reception, the service can be summed up in one word "excellent". The gentleman on reception was helpful and polite and the service we received from Chris when we had been seated was first class. My partner is gluten free which we had mentioned when booking and we had no need to remedy them as they had already prepared a perfect gluten free afternoon tea for her. Nothing else really needs to be said other than, from start to finish it was a perfect afternoon, thanks to all the staff at the Borrowdale Gates.

We visited for Sunday lunch last weekend while staying in a nearby village. The hotel was beautifully furnished and the staff were welcoming, polite & attentive. The menu choices were excellent and we both thoroughly enjoyed each of our courses. We were seated right in front of the large restaurant windows and the views out over the fells were fantastic. A real luxurious experience for our Wedding Anniversary treat! All in all we can highly recommend.
