Overview

A classic English coaching inn, sugar-white with thatched roof overhanging and complete with low beamed bar, traditional ales and hearty, locally source dishes on the menu, The White Horse between the villages of East Cholderton and Thruxton in Hampshire makes for a comforting base to explore the area. The hotel prides itself on providing great food with inventive twists so expect starters like duck rillette with toasted brioche, pickled onions and cornichons and big hitting mains like marinated fillet of lamb with feta, broad beans, peas and kalamata olives, lemon and garlic. Bedrooms are smart, large and comfortable with a double bed, colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities and wireless access. Just off the A303 (so very handy for breaking up a journey), The White Horse actually feels like it's miles from anywhere and a perfect, peaceful stop to rest your head, tuck into a great meal and enjoy a break.

Reviews

Spacious room, lovely (large) bed and a warm and professional welcome upon arrival and throughout our stay. Food was well prepared and nicely presented. Very convenient location, just off the main road but still quiet and restful. We shall come again.

Great food, lovely pub, excellent service. Menu is superb. An amazing historic old building.
