The Anchor Inn, ideally situated within a stones throw of Dartmoor National Park in Devon where the movie Warhorse was recently filmed, we’re the perfect base for exploring one of the UK’s most stunning landscapes.
A traditional yet contemporary, village inn with restaurant, pub and ten bedrooms.
Our six bedrooms and four cabins have high ceilings, comfortable double beds with walk in showers or baths and our prices offer phenomenal value for the quality and comfort that we offer.
If you just want a bite to eat, then our restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Our menu, is delicious, seasonal and uncomplicated - a real gastro treat. If a pint and a snack is more your thing, then our pub is the place to be.
We’re also just on the edge of the glorious South Hams with it's array of wonderful beaches and coastal paths. If you want to hit the shops or take in a show, then the city of Plymouth is just twenty minutes away.
The Anchor Inn Ugborough is part of the following Inspirations:
"Based in the small Dartmoor town of Ugborough, the Anchor Inn is popular with walkers and shooting parties. The interiors are freshly restored with pastel-painted tongue and groove woodwork, wood-burning stoves and some intriguing recesses in the old stone walls. One acts as a wine store with a metal gate across so guests can’t decide on self-service. (If the decorative style and the enthusiasm of the staff remind you of the South Sands Hotel in Salcombe, that may be because the Anchor is South Sands’ inland sister.)
There are six bedrooms in the main building and four cabins in the courtyard behind the pub which are larger and – inevitably – quieter. Particular fun are the tromp d’oeil wardrobes, in fact just hooks on the wall that are painted to look like furniture.
Like many British pubs the Anchor’s name arises in an unusual way. Lying 15 miles from Plymouth, it represented the furthest inn from the sea where naval pressgangs were allowed to operate."
"A classic British village pub, The Anchor Inn has benefitted from an expert design eye being cast over it and the result is somewhere to stay that has all the coziness of a traditional inn with some very nice 21st century touches. Let’s start with the location, though – very close to Dartmoor National Park, on the edge of the terribly upscale South Hams with its pretty beaches and coastal paths and just 20 minutes from bustling Plymouth. Choose from a bedroom or a cabin (the latter being slightly larger and with own entrance - useful if you’ve children or a dog – all with lovely high ceilings, pretty throws on crisp white bedclothes and squeaky clean en-suites - either walk in shower or bath). Rooms are on a B&B basis but the chef in the kitchen is always on hand to create lunch or dinner too."

A very beautiful and charismatic inn. The rooms are very quaint and the food is that of a 5* restaurant. We are over the moon that this is a dog friendly hotel. Keep doing what you are doing. The staff are fabulous.

Good fresh food cooked to order, the steak was second to none, service very good, price a little higher than other valley pubs but worth every penny.
