Overview

The D-Day Story gives a fascinating insight into the events of the Normandy Landings, and what those taking part had to face. Through artefacts, personal testimonies and audio-visuals, the museum tells the story of the historic day - showcasing the epic made personal, and the personal made epic.

Where is The D-Day Story located?

The D-Day Story is located on Clarence Esplanade, along Southsea Seafront. There is a paid car park alongside the museum. Just a few hundred metres from The D-Day Story is the historic Southsea Castle.

What is the history of The D-Day Story to the present day?

The museum has recently undergone a £5 million transformation project. The aim of this was to turn the attraction from something specialising in the technicalities of military history to a space that could tell the fascinating stories of those involved in the landings.

What is there to see and do at The D-Day Story?

The museum shows visitors around a timeline of events, from preparation to the battle, and then finally the legacy. It shows the 'pencil that started the invasion', offers a glimpse into what faced those landing in Normandy, and concludes with the epic Overlord Embroidery - a fascinating piece all on its own.
