Segedunum Roman Fort was opened in June 2000, with Heritage Lottery help. It was a cavalry barracks and was one of the forts on Hadrian's Wall.
What is there to see and do at Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths & Museum?
There is a 100-foot viewing tower, which gives an excellent panoramic view of the site, as well as views of the River Tyne and local area. There is a reconstructed Roman bath-house, which is unfortunately closed at present for essential maintenance. The original bath-house remains were also recently discovered near the site and these remains have been excavated and recorded and are now open to the public. Craft activities for children are held during the school holidays. There are 2 rooms available for hire.
