The town of Wantage is said to be the birth place of King Alfred. Today it is a busy market town with many interesting shops. It is an ideal place for enjoying walks on the nearby ridgeway and there are a number of historic sites to visit such as an iron age hill fort, Uffington Castle and White horse, and the Wayland's Smithy tomb.
