The Nottinghamshire town of Southwell is on the River Greet and is not far from Nottingham. It has its own cathedral which is a good example of Norman architecture. The town is famous for the fact that Lord Byron lived there and Charles 1 spent his last days of freedom there. It is also the place where the first bramley apple was grown.
