Overview

In the heart of the spectacular Yorkshire Moors, the Brontë Parsonage Museum, at Haworth, is the largest collection of personal possessions, clothes and furniture from the Brontë family. The museum hosts a full calendar of events throughout the year, including contemporary arts events, exhibitions and family activities. It's a wonderful insight into a great literary family, and a fascinating day out for all age groups.

Where is Bronte Parsonage Museum located?

Located on Church Street, in the village of Howarth, The Bronte Parsonage Museum is behind the church at the upper end of Haworth Main Street. There is a car park next to the Museum, just off West Lane.

What is the history of Bronte Parsonage Museum to the present day?

The Bronte Parsonage Museum has been welcoming visitors for 90 years, and has, since that time, been offering a full programme of events, exhibitions and activities for the whole family. Recent developments include an exploration of the legacy of Emily Brontë, and in 2019, the Museum will look at the life and legacy of Patrick Brontë.

What is there to see and do at Bronte Parsonage Museum?

With displays including notebooks, letters and household items, it's fascinating to read the sisters' minuscule writing, especially in the ‘Little Books'. Visitors can also see the dining table where the great works of Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall were written, complete with candle burns and ink stains.

Other Information

For group bookings, VIP tours can be arranged, led by trained guides, to provide a deeper insight into the Brontë family, their lives and their writing. Monthly sessions, called the Brontë Treasures, also allow visitors to example items from the collection more closely. Educational and school visits are also welcomed by the Museum.

So today I visited Bronte Parsonage Museum and almost died of fangirling. Oh my goodness, it's everything I thought it would be and oh so much more. I was screaming internally the whole time I was there! Being able to step into the dinning room where Bronte sisters wrote some of my favorite books of all time was surreal. I also visited Bronte Waterfall and Top Withens. I could imagine Charlotte, Emily and Anne so clearly. They spent their days wandering this exact route and seeing this exact landscape. It was haunting, desolate and so inspiring. It was such an enjoyable experience and I just can't recommend Haworth enough for anyone who appreciates the Brontes. Oh, and 'labas' to that one staff member who speaks Lithuanian!

This was our 3rd time at the Bronte Paronage and never get tired of going through the house, there always something different to to see what you may have missed the last time We also find the Church lovely to spend some time in also, very quite and peaceful . Howarth is also a fascinating place somehow very magical when you walk around the cobbled streets and you think about the Bronte Sisters walking those same cobbles all those hundreds of years ago. Anybody who has never been go,! you won't be disappointed well worth a visit ,and you will need to go back.

I have been absolutely blown away by this wonderful home. I say home because that's exactly how it feels. I cannot praise the guides highly enough for their devotion and knowledge that they share so freely. Being a huge Bronte fan I wasn't sure what to expect but I can say hand on heart that the Parsonage is something so very special and I shall be eternally grateful to all those who work so hard to preserve not only the Parsonage but the lives and history of the Bronte family.

I am still mesmerized with my visit to the Museum. To actually see the very table where they sat and wrote their books, which I am all going to read. To enter the house where they all, except Anne, died so tragically young. To read their description of what life was like in their days. Their awareness of injustice and the differences in social classes is genius.

Wonderful celebration of the most extraordinary family in English literature. I was fortunate enough to be guided through both the parsonage and the lives of the Brontës by the brilliant Amy, one of the museum's curators. I can highly recommend taking a VIP tour.

Beautiful, inspiring and spine chilling, felt truly like stepping back in time, both my husband and I loved it, we will definitely visit again, we can't recommend enough what a hidden gem this place is, not just the museum but also the village, it's just gorgeous.

Fascinating place to look round. Couldn't believe how many of the Brontes' possessions were on display plus costumes from the BBC drama. One lady was particularly knowledgeable and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Wonderful tribute to the Bronte family and their art and literary contributions! Loved every bit! The costumes from the recent movie really contribute to the collection in setting a tone of the period, too!
