The Top Ten UK Vineyards

by Felicity Cousins

The UK first produced wine when the Romans introduced vines to our soils, but wine-making skills were lost over the centuries. It was not until the introduction of grape varieties suited to our cooler climate in the 20th century that English viniculture began to flourish. There are now over 500 vineyards in the UK and this list is a snapshot of a varied and geographically diverse industry – Vineyards are busy places all year round from bottling in the winter months to budding over the summer and harvesting in late September, there is always something to see, do, taste and learn.
