Ten of the Best Japanese Restaurants

by Andy Lynes

Although there have been high quality Japanese restaurants in London since the 70's, it wasn't until Yo! Sushi opened its first branch in 1997 and brought the cuisine to the high street that it really began to capture the British culinary imagination. Now, we're just as likely to grab a bento box for lunch as we are a sandwich. The quality and range of Japanese restaurants has increased so much that you can now find authentic examples from Aberdeen to Brighton. Healthy and delicious and often eaten in glamorous and hip settings, the popularity of Japanese food in Britain is only set to grow.

Nobu Matsuhisa and with business partners Rbert De Niro and leading American restaurateur Drew Nierpornet have created an iconic brand with this stylish modern Japanese. Black cod with miso is a modern classic, while South American influenced dishes like anti-cucho Peruvian style spicy salmon skewers make this a distinctive dining experience.
