What makes a stay at The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa unique?
The hotel sits on 30,000 acres of the Bolton Abbey Estate, and has an award-winning restaurant, an adult-only spa, a gym, and an indoor pool; it prides itself on its impeccable customer service, fine hospitality and attention to detail all wrapped up in a warm Yorkshire welcome.
What are the rooms and facilities on offer at The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa?
The Duchess of Devonshire brings each of the forty bedrooms to life with their own unique style and oversees the internal décor. The hotel perfectly delivers the romantic charm of a country house whilst offering the facilities of modern hospitality. The hotel holds two suites, a family room and a selection of four-poster, double and twin beds.
What can guests enjoy when staying in the Skipton area?
Skipton is the southern gateway to the Dales and, historically, grew wealthy as a trading centre for sheep and wool; its cobbled streets and aged buildings give the small town a friendly atmosphere. Skipton Castle, parish church, and the high-street market are the key components of what makes this nostalgic town special. Small shops populate the alleyways and passages between the tofts and crofts (former narrow landholdings); guests will also find cosy cafes, inns, and courtyards. This all happens alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal where boats frequently pass and tourists take advantage of the picturesque landscape.
Where can guests enjoy food and drink?
The Burlington restaurant has 4AA Rosettes, the kitchen is run by the skilled head chef, Paul Leonard, who delivers the classical country house style combined with fresh, exciting and modern British menus. Exquisite tasting menus are The Burlington's speciality; the hotel maintains its own kitchen garden and ensures that each dish is sourced from the local area. The hotel's Brasserie & Bar is the perfect place for a spot of lunch or to have an evening meal, whilst enjoying a much-deserved glass of wine after a hectic day. Sundays offer guests a traditional roast to enjoy amongst friends and family, so guests can treat themselves to one of the best Yorkshire places to dine.
Spa experiences are available to those wishing to optimise their therapeutic stay in the Dales and spoil themselves with a treatment or two. Highly recommended are the world-class, rejuvenating Temple Spa treatments, as well as their selection of holistic therapies to restore mind, body, and soul. The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa have two stunning 3-bedroom stone-built cottages, located in the heart of the Wharfe Valley, the hotel promises they are the most memorable way to explore The Dales. The hotel is proud of their reputation as being one of the most exclusive venues in Yorkshire and is confident they can accommodate anybody's individual needs with their immaculate service and attention to detail.
The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa also has a Self Catering, Spa, Wedding Venue and Restaurant:
The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa is part of the following Inspirations:
"Let the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire take the strain this New Year’s Eve and book into one of their most lavish hotels (they own a few), the Devonshire Hotel. Nestling within the 12th century Bolton Abbey estate on the banks of the River Wharfe around six miles from Ilkley on the southern tip of the Dales, the hotel is a little slice of Yorkshire heaven, with twinkling lights, log fires and excellent food setting the tone. Treat yourself to a suite (they all have six-foot four poster beds with steps leading up to them with décor chosen by the fair hand of the duchess herself) in which to prepare for the lavish New Year’s Eve Black Tie Gourmet Dinner held in the Burlington restaurant. Dog lovers will prick up their ears at the news that this hotel is also incredibly dog-friendly. They’re allowed almost everywhere – although you may have trouble getting them inside as there are 80 miles of public footpaths across 35,000 acres here to explore."
"Ilkley Literature Festival
Yorkshire icon Alan Bennett opens the Ilkley Literature Festival on 29 September and it runs until 15 October 2017 with an impressive line-up of names that includes Shami Chakrabarti, Richard Dawkins, Simon Armitage, Fergal Keane, and Alan Hollinghurst.
The spa town of Ilkley has become the “Hay of the North” in recent years, with a similar mix of the literary personalities, serious writers and big Radio 4 names. There’s also a busy programmes of events for children and young people featuring Radio 1’s Greg James and Chris Smith plus many free events for families.
Five miles northwest along the Wharfe Valley lies the Devonshire Arms, one of a number of hotels by that name that owe their origin to one Duke of Devonshire or another. This one is the Bolton Abbey Devonshire Arms, an extensive and charming Grade II-listed ashlar stone building with seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth-century additions. Today it is of course a hotel and spa. Sitting on the 30,000-acre Bolton Abbey estate within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, this hotel also offers a Health Barn Spa, a brasserie and bar (also named after the Devonshires) and an award-winning restaurant.
Again the big problem will be stirring outside your hotel to absorb some culture. But hotels will always be there. Celebrity writers will not!"
"This luxury country house hotel is surrounded by miles of footpaths and trails – just ideal for energetic dogs and their owners. A range of dog-friendly services are available including bowls, blankets, edible treats, and even dog sitting can be organised. Eateries include the award-winning Burlington restaurant as well as The Devonshire Brasserie and Bar. Guests also enjoy use of the Devonshire Health Barn which offers a range of spa treatments, as well as having a pool, Jacuzzi, plunge pool, gym and a tennis court. Dogs are welcome to stay in the bedroom too for £10 per dog."
"If you’d rather see the race after the initial hullaballoo of the start in Leeds, leafy Skipton in north Yorkshire may well be the perfect spot to stay in, thanks to the rather lovely Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel. Sitting on the 30,000-acre Bolton Abbey estate which sprawls across stunning acre after stunning acre in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the hotel is an oasis of very smart, very stylish country living with a generous dollop of pamper factor thrown in. So, go, claim your spot in this bustling market town with its gorgeous medieval castle, see the action and then retreat to the hotel, perhaps for a treatment or two in the Spa at the Dev, housed in an ancient barn, or for a spot of afternoon tea (renowned here for their freshly baked scones and clotted cream and their amazing cakes and pastries)."
"There couldn’t be a more beautiful setting than The Devonshire Arms in the heart of the Duke of Devonshire’s estate in Yorkshire Dales. A taste of luxury abounds throughout the hotel from its large, craftsman made, four posters to its award winning restaurant, sumptuous décor and romantic Italian Box Garden. Surrounded by tranquil parkland, ancient ruins, glistening streams and waterfalls you’ll be lost for choice to find the perfect spot to pop the question."
