This delightful hotel is to be found at Rodborough Common, surrounded by stunning National Trust countryside. Once an important coaching inn, the hotel’s rich history is evident at every turn, with original features in abundance, complemented by stylish country house interiors that provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is dog-friendly.

What makes a stay at The Bear of Rodborough unique?

Having started life as a coaching inn in the 17th century, The Bear of Rodborough is full of charming quirks, from the stone archways to inglenook fireplaces and even a pair of friendly stuffed bears in Reception. The hotel welcomes dogs, making it every inch the walker’s paradise, with acres of surrounding National Trust land to explore. Each summer, this land is home to a herd of free-roaming Belted Galloway cows, who can often be seen popping over to say hello through the hotel windows!

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at The Bear of Rodborough?

The Bear of Rodborough is home to 46 relaxed, stylish bedrooms split across the main house and the adjoining dog-welcoming country house. Some have lavish four-poster beds, some have unbeatable views of the Woodchester valley. The whole hotel has been designed by owner Pamela Horton who uses rich fabrics, warm colours and striking artworks to enhance the cosy atmosphere that comes naturally to the Bear.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Stroud area?

Aside from walking the beautiful Rodborough and Minchinhampton Commons, there is lots to do nearby. Stroud and Tetbury are both just a short drive away and are lovely market towns to explore. Tetbury is home to Royal Highgrove and the Highgrove shop, and very near to Westonbirt, the National Arboretum. In Stroud, the Museum in the Park is a must-visit, and Woodchester Mansion is highly recommended.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Whether you're looking to warm up in front of the fireplace or make the most of the great outdoors, the team at The Bear will always be happy to serve you a pint! Inside, The Bear Bar is traditional and snug, serving a relaxed menu of food and drink all day, from morning coffee & crumpets to afternoon tea, pies and pints. During summer, the same menu is available at the new Pavilion Garden Bar - a lively, family-friendly spot with ping-pong, table-football, ice creams and slushies. For a more sophisticated evening meal, head to the AA Rosette-awarded Library Restaurant, which offers a delicious seasonal menu, with views over the Common.

The Bear of Rodborough

Room furniture showing its age. On arrival, Bedside lights had no bulbs and TV was not tuned; these should have been checked by housekeeping prior to our arrival. Impressive food and outstanding service from staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
