Overview

Set majestically on the bubbling upper reaches of the River Teign, Gidleigh Park enjoys an exquisite location on the very edge of Dartmoor National Park. Famed for its culinary credentials, Gidleigh Park offers an air of tranquillity and romance within a Tudor-style country house, set within 107 acres of mature grounds.

What makes a stay at Gidleigh Park unique?

Gidleigh Park sits in 107 acres of gardens and woodland on the northern bank of the North Teign River in Dartmoor National Park. Guests are able to expend some energy on the croquet lawns, Peter Allis designed 18-hole putting green or grass tennis court. A walk through the bluebell woods in the grounds in spring is quite magical and meandering through the kitchen garden, resisting the temptation to eat the produce then and there, is a tantalising way to while away an afternoon.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Gidleigh Park?

Named after local landmark tors, each room is luxuriously appointed and individually designed, featuring fine antiques and artwork. Naturally, all come with crisp white linen, plumped up pillows and Vispring beds to guarantee that perfect night's slumber. Nestled in the grounds, 350 yards from the hotel, The Pavilion is a charming thatched cottage reached by a footpath along the river, ideal for a more secluded stay. Guests are greeted with spring water from the Gidleigh estate, L'Occitane skin care and bath lotions, slippers and fluffy bathrobes in their room. All guests have access to the Pantry stocked with tea, coffee and homemade biscuits.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Chagford area?

Gidleigh Park is set in the North of beautiful Dartmoor, with many unique and wonderful places to visit right on the doorstep. Dartmoor is a walker's paradise, offering a huge variety of trails that cater for all abilities, and discovering this magical landscape on foot affords the opportunity to observe the wildlife and natural vegetation that are at home here. The local ancient stannary town of Chagford is a 45-minute walk or around a two-mile drive from the hotel. This charming village is home to a range of independent boutique, gift and clothes shops.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

At the heart of the hotel, the elegant and intimate restaurant provides a sophisticated backdrop to decadent tasting and à la carte menus. Dishes are laced with touches of adventure and invention, crafted with exceptional skill and care. If guests wish to venture into Chagford, there are a number of characterful pubs to choose from.

Address: Chagford, Devon, ChagfordTQ13 8HH, United Kingdom

Follow signs to Chagford instead of Gidleigh. From Chagford Square, with the Spar shop directly in front of you, turn right. After 150 yards, take the right fork and go downhill to Factory Crossroads. Go straight into Holy Street and follow the lane for one and a half miles to the end. Do not rely on satellite navigation.
