With stunning views of the Minster and the city’s ancient walls the Grand Hotel & Spa enjoys an enviable central location as York’s only five star hotel.

Built in 1906 as one of the great railway buildings of York, the hotel’s graceful Edwardian architecture is complemented with fine dining, a relaxed 130 seater restaurant and a luxurious spa complex that features an indoor pool and treatment rooms.

All 107 guest rooms are individually designed and furnished to an extremely high specification, creating an indulgent yet unpretentious environment for both leisure and business travellers. Private dining facilities and elegant function rooms, provide a plethora of unique options for events and meetings.

The Grand Hotel & Spa, York is part of the following Inspirations:

Top 10 Glamorous City Hotels by Dinah Hatch

"With simply gorgeous views of the Minster and this incredibly historic city’s walls, the Grand Hotel was built back in 1906 as a ‘Palace of Business’ for the titans of commerce in York. Fast forward just over a century and there is considerably more fun goes at this Edwardian stunner. Visit The Rise, Terrace and Bar for a smart British menu masterminded by award-wining chef Craig Atchinson, take post-prandial drinks in the clubby 1906 bar and then collapse into your suite (oh do book a suite) with its his and hers sinks, double walk-in shower, indulgent bathtub and Egyptian cotton bed linen. We also love that you get Sky Atlantic 9so you can hunker down to a late night box set binge)."

Britain’s Finest Tour de France hotels by Dinah Hatch

"Stage Two of the tour starts off from York Racecourse and glides past historic Clifford’s Tower and York Minster so why on earth wouldn’t you book into Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa which actually looks out onto the Minster. Not that I would encourage this in any way, but if you were feeling lazy YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR ROOM AT ALL! Well, you might just get seduced by this wonderful old railway hotel, its Edwardian architecture carefully preserved yet with bang up to date spa (indoor pool? Tick), open air roof garden and great dining options. This place is completely indulgent yet pleasingly unpretentious – we think you deserve it."

Ten hotels for fine wine lovers by Adrian Mourby

"York’s only five-star hotel boasts views of the Minster and regular "wine discovery" dinners in the HQ dining room. Each month sommelier Elouisa Ana Cabrales creates a five-course dinner with matching wines based around a particular grape or kind of wine. The meal is introduced by a guest speaker. These events have proved very popular and book up well in advance. Cedar Court Grand Hotel was built in 1906 as one of the finest Edwardian railway buildings in the north of England. Originally it provided a lavish headquarters for the Great North of England Railway Company. The current name of its fine dining room, HQ, is intended to reflect this heritage."

Ten of the Best Hotels in North Yorkshire by Adrian Mourby

"York’s only five star hotel was built in 1906 as the headquarters of North Eastern Railway when Britain’s railway companies wanted to show off their wealth. Belgian marble was laid in the entrance hall, and mosaics in the corridors. The indoor pool and spa complex are recent non-Edwardian additions but there has been no diminution of opulence. Cedar Court is worth a visit even if you don’t stay."
