Dalhousie Castle Hotel & Spa

Bonnyrigg, Edinburgh, Mid-Lothian, EH19 3JB

Dalhousie Castle Hotel & Aqueous Spa is a fascinating 13th century fortress set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the river Esk. A rich tapestry of arts and culture has created twenty seven beautiful bedrooms. Period furniture, rugs and carpets combine to create a richly warm and luxurious feel that's deeply relaxing and truly welcoming. The quality of the cuisine and the unique setting make dining at Dalhousie Castle anything but ordinary. It is the perfect setting for a traditional Scottish banquet. In medieval times life at Dalhousie Castle would have been anything but stress free, but now all that has changed with the introduction of what was Scotland's very first hydro spa.

Dalhousie Castle Hotel & Spa is part of the following Travel Ideas:

10 of the Best New Year's Eve Hotels by Dinah Hatch

"This fairytale-like 700-year-old castle sits within acres of stunning parkland just eight miles south of Edinburgh and is the epitome of Scottish elegance. Imagine peeping through the arrow slits at snowy vistas as you make your way to afternoon tea by a roaring fire, later descending past soaring Christmas trees on the glamorous red-carpet staircase to the ancient barrel-vaulted dungeons for a Hogmanay dinner and knees up to remember. Make sure you bag yourself a bedroom with a four-poster bed in which to sleep off the party. Spend New Year’s Day strolling the grounds, trying out some archery or flying a bird of prey in the falconry – or collapse in the tip-top spa for a reviving treatment."

Detox With Less Suffering by Adrian Mourby

"You wouldn’t immediately think that the thirteenth-century fortress of Dalhousie Castle was also the first hotel in Scotland to introduce a hydro spa. This comfortable country house hotel has witnessed a lot of history. In 1298 King Edward I stayed at this castle on his way to fight William Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298. In 1400 King Henry IV besieged the forces of Sir Alexander Ramsay for six months here, and Oliver Cromwell used the castle as a base for his invasion of Scotland.

The fiercest thing you’ll encounter these days at Dalhousie is the glass-lined Hydro Pool where multi-massage jets, designed to reach those muscles where tension is stored, pummel your stresses away. There are also treatment rooms that employ Elemis therapeutic and beauty products to help send you home happy and refreshed.

Today Dalhousie Castle with its fluted ceilings, ivy clad walls and dining room watched over by suits of armour has an authentic baronial feel to it, but also a modern commitment to healthy living in its spa."

Stayed at Dalhousie Castle for a 3 night honeymoon break. Absolutely fabulous. Rooms were lovely, well equiped and the staff were extremely helpful. The dungeon restuarant served the most amazing food. Huighly recommended

The Falconry Experience at Dalhousie Castle was truly a delight and enjoyable time. Denise & Tom showed much admiration for the birds of prey in their care. Terrific!

My stay at Dalhousie was short but memorable for comfort and the most delicious meal of my entire 20 day trip.
