Overview

Discover the intimate world of Queen Victoria at Osborne House Osborne House was built for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a private holiday home. It was designed by Prince Albert and built by Thomas Cubitt in Italianate style. Many of the rooms have been preserved and unaltered since the death of Queen Victoria, here in 1901. Osborne reflects Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's passions, tastes and style. Ornate furnishings and artefacts from The Royal Collection fill rooms and corridors where Victoria entertained heads of state, inventors, princess and princesses and ruled the vast British Empire. The Durbar Room, added in 1890 when the Queen became Empress of India, now houses an exhibition of Indian gifts. Set among terraced gardens with stunning views over the Solent, Osborne House offers an intimate insight into the lives of the Victorian Monarchy.

Reviews

On a beautiful day you can`t beat strolling around the wonderful grounds of Osborne House. Drink a welcome glass of fresh lemonade down by the sea, taking in the view of Queen Victoria`s bathing wagon. Fabulous! Make sure to explore all the gardens as you find surprises hidden all along the way... Like the Swiss house that was built for the children to learn life skills in, like cooking and embroidery. The kitchen garden there is still going strong. The house itself is magnificent and awe inspiring in it`s grandeur and maintenance. Every aspect of the house divulges yet another astounding view of the coast and countryside. Our tip don`t rush it! Take your time to really feel and embrace the magic of this place. It really is rather special.
