Newhailes

Discover the secrets of this Beautiful Scottish Mansion Newhailes is a fine late 17th century house with impressive 18th century additions. The house was built in 1686 and bought by Sir David Dalrymple, of the legal and political dynasty. He was responsible for the addition of one of the most important rococo interiors in Scotland. The house contains a fine collection of paintings, portraits and furnishings. The library was built in the early 18th century, and described by Dr Samuel Johnson as `the most learned room in Europe´. The 86 acres of garden are now being researched to reveal the original layout.
