Overview

Discover the beautiful Lytes Cary Manor The home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, the limestone house that is Lytes Cary Manor has been inhabited since the 14th century. It was passed through a succession of generations of the Lyte family until the 18th century and has been expanded and improved upon until the family were forced to sell in 1755. Highlights include the wonderful little chantry chapel used to hold masses to pray for the souls of family members, the Great Chamber ceiling showing the Lytes, Horsey and Henry VIII family coats of arms and the wonderful grounds. Henry Lyte used the Niewe Herball book on herbal remedies as inspiration for his plantings and it is now a delightful mix of shrubs, roses and perennials, thanks to a restoration project by Sir Walter Jenner, who bought the house in 1907.
