Overview

Blenheim Palace is a perfect example of beautiful Baroque architecture. As the home of the 12th Duke of Marlborough and his family, and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, it is steeped in history and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Where is Blenheim Palace located?

Blenheim Palace is located in the town of Woodstock, Oxfordshire, and is a 20-minute drive from the city of Oxford.

What is the history of Blenheim Palace to the present day?

The Palace was built for John Churchill who, at the time, was the 1st Duke of Marlborough. He received the gift from Queene Anne and a grateful nation who paid thanks to his victory at the Battle of Blenheim on 13th August 1704. Now, Blenheim Palace is part of one of the most extensive collections in Europe, which includes portraits, furniture, sculpture and tapestries.

What is there to see and do at Blenheim Palace?

Within the Palace are many State Rooms where treasures await such as the famous Marlborough Tapestries (the 'Victories Series') in the Green Writing Room and the First, Second and Third State Rooms. Guests are encouraged to discover the literature-walled library that is lined by more than 10,000 books, many of which hold great historic value and are hundreds of years old.
