Experience a century of heritage at Berrington Hall. With breathtaking views across the Black Mountains of Wales, it's no surprise that Capability Brown, landscaper of the day, chose the site that Berrington Hall now stands for the great designer Henry Holland to build on. Holland then set up the neo-classical Berrington Hall, all the while after his employer Thomas Harley's instructions that the house should demonstrate just how much money he had earned to supply the British army with uniforms. The effect is a house built to impress men. From the outside, the red sandstone is very rigid and formal in nature, but the inside is the opposite, with its lavishness and extravagance exuding a beautiful warmth.
What is there to see and do at Berrington Hall?
Look out for beautiful painted walls, ornate plasterwork and a grand high dome that sheds sunlight on a stunning hallway stairway. Always worth going to the dining room, Luny's colossal paintings portraying Admiral Rodney's famous sea battles. But don't ignore the downstairs portion of the house–you'll be treated to interesting insights into life as a laundry worker, butler's pantry and exquisite dairy.
