Overview

One of the world's top 100 courses. Firm fast greens & deep bunkers typify this inland links that's nestled between the North York Moors & the Yorkshire Wolds in stunning scenery. It has been host to the Ryder, Walker & Curtis Cups, in addition to numerous other top professional & amateur tournaments.

What style is the course at Ganton Golf Club?

Stretching to over 7,000 yards off the Championship tees, the course typifies the best in links & heathland golf. Accuracy off the tee is vital to avoid the bunkers that guard the tiger line off the tee. Bump & run golf is the order of the day for approach shots. Firm fast greens with subtle breaks will test players' putting skills. The rough is to be avoided and if encountered, the direct route back to the fairway is invariably the sensible option.

What is the feature hole?

The 16th is framed in front from the tee, with a backdrop of gorse, the clubhouse & the North York Moors. An accurate drive is long and on the right side of the fairway to benefit from the slopes that will kick it forward and leave a mid to short iron into the green. Go too far left and players will need to manufacture a shot round the tree that guards that side of the hole. Avoid the bunkers that guard against wayward approach shots and one will be on a high green that slopes front to back and off at either side. Easy 4!

What sort of course features can the player expect?

Bunkers are a key feature at Ganton, both in size and positioning. They vary from pot bunkers to rivals to Hells Half Acre. Accuracy of the tee is vital to avoid well placed drive bunkers. The greens are everything one would expect from an inland links - firm, fast & true all year round.
