Explore acres of stunning woodland, run wild and free in our adventure play area or meet exotic birds and animals, no two visits to Thorp Perrow Arboretum are the same! Covering 100 acres, Thorp Perrow Arboretum boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England, including 5 National Collections.

Where is Thorp Perrow Arboretum located?

No access to Arboretum from Firby Road (past Bedale Leisure Centre), use satnav postcode DL8 2PS. From Bedale: follow signposts towards Masham (B6268), ignore signs for Thorp Perrow along Firby Road (also signposted Leisure Centre), and continue for approx 1 mile. Turn left following signs for Snape and the entrance to the Arboretum is approx 1/4 mile on the left.

What style of garden is Thorp Perrow Arboretum?

Thorp Perrow is the most important Arboretum in the North of England and is unique to Britain, if not Europe, in that it was the creation of one man, Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner (1895-1977). His son, Sir John Ropner (1937-2016) and his wife, Niki, then went onto develop the Arboretum into the visitor attraction you see today. Sir Henry Ropner and his family are the current custodians.

What can guests enjoy at Thorp Perrow Arboretum?

The packed diary of events offers something for everyone, from seasonally-themed trails and activity weekends, open-air tribute band concerts, to expert-led tours and walks. The licensed tearoom serves a delicious range of locally-produced seasonal lunches and a mouth-watering selection of cakes and sweet treats. Kids have their own dedicated menu, perfect for re-fuelling after running wild and free in the adventure play area.
