Ickworth makes an exception day out, with plenty to see for all the family. The Rotunda was built in the 18th century to house the treasures and artefacts collected by the 4th Earl of Bristol on his grand tours of Europe, and is quite something. The rather eccentric Hervey family continued to add to the collection for the next 200 years, and also built one the very first Italianate gardens in this country.
