Overview

Scotney offers a 14th century castle, complete with a moat, along with a charming country house and a romantic garden, all surrounded by a stunning woodland estate. Visitors can relax in the gorgeous gardens, with the fairytale castle behind, or stroll out in the 770 acres of parkland and woodland.

Where is Scotney Castle located?

Set in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Scotney Castle is located outside the village of Lamberhurst in the Weald of Kent, just off the A21.

What style of garden is Scotney Castle?

The garden at Scotney Castle oozes romance and mystery, with rhododendrons framing a view of the castle in spring, and incredible reflections in the moat during the autumn months. The garden is planted in a naturalistic style, as if everything had somehow just happened to grow that way. The swathes of rhododendrons and azaleas give the garden a real fairytale feel, with the castle ruins nestled in their midst.

What can guests enjoy at Scotney Castle?

Visitors can choose to explore the old castle ruins, visit the Victorian mansion or enjoy the gardens. During the school holidays, there are trails for children, explaining the history of Scotney Castle and its inhabitants. The walled garden is a charming place to sit and take in the atmosphere of the place, enjoying the flowers and the productive beds. The Stables tearoom serves hot and cold food, and there is also an ice-cream parlour and a tuck shop.
