Overview

Broughton House & Garden is situated in the center of Kirkcudbright, an historic town and artist community on the Galloway coast. This remarkable museum, incorporating both original interiors and exhibition rooms, is dedicated to the life and work of E A Hornel as an artist, dealer and antique designer.

Outside, Hornel and his sister crafted a beautiful garden with expansive views over the port of Kirkcudbright and the River Dee. This mature garden is now a gentle maze of walking blocks, wisteria-covered paths and Edwardian charm.

What can guests enjoy at Broughton House & Garden?

Discover the beautiful gardens of Broughton House Broughton House and its gardens is a fascinating but elegant combination of Japanese and Scottish designs, set out in the early 1900s by artist E.A. Hornel, guy. The sunken courtyard, with its Japanese cherries and low-level planting, opens to a Japanese-inspired cottage garden. The gardens also features a rose parterre, a glasshouse, herbaceous borders and box hedges well laid out to offer the impression of space. A huge rainwater tank feeds the lily pools with their rocks and boulders. A captivating garden, where you, too, will find solace in the light that is falling across the Dee.
