Overview

Dating back to the 1300s, the house at Kailzie has passed through many an aristocratic hand but it wasn't until 1962 when present owner Lady Buchan-Hepburn got to grips with the wilderness that surrounds it that the present garden you see today emerged. The garden stands at 700 feet above sea level on the south bank of the River Tweed where winters are harsh and the subsequent clever planting is mostly hardy. The Walled Garden, built in 1811, now has hardy shrub beds and old fashioned roses flourishing in it while the herbaceous border is backed by a beautiful copper beech hedge. Look out for the old sun dial paced there in 1811 and a stunning centrepiece. The Laburnum Walk and the formal Rose Garden, created in the early 1980s, put the icing on the cake of a lovely garden attraction.
