Overview

Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens and plant nursery is a wildlife friendly garden, planted up to encourage many varieties of wildlife, whilst retaining the beauty of a traditional cottage garden.  It remains a family garden and continues to develop every year.

Where is Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens and Nursery located?

The pretty village of Stillingfleet is 6 miles south of York, on the B1222. Signposts to “Lodge Nurseries” lead the way. Bus services between York and Selby stop in Stillingfleet, making it easy to visit the Gardens, and there is an enjoyable cycle route from York.

What style of garden is Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens and Nursery?

Stillingfleet Lodge is still a family home, and the gardens are very well-loved by the family. Colour-themed cottage gardens surround the house, and there is a double herbaceous border to admire, spanning 60 feet. The woodlands lead down to the pond, and from there to the wildflower meadow. For those of you who prefer something more formal there is the stunning Rill garden. The nursery offers a wide variety of plants for sale, and it is well-known for its shade-loving plants, as well as its hardy geraniums and pulmonaria.

Look out for the free-range poultry and fan-tailed pigeons as you enjoy this relaxing space. You are also likely to see plenty of birds, bees, butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies as you walk around.

What can guests enjoy at Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens and Nursery?

The gardens are a delight to wander around, and to sit in and relax. Sculptures, bird feeders and the resident poultry all add interest. Younger children can have fun in the play area, and the annual wildlife day is great fun for the whole family. The tea room serves light refreshments, and also hosts a monthly art exhibition. Gardening workshops and creative courses are held throughout the year.

I visited for the first time today and what a wonderful visit it was. Everything was delightful – the garden is heavenly, the cafe and cakes delicious and the nursery full of gorgeous abundance, particularly of hardy geraniums, one of my favourite plants. Thank you – I'll be back!

The garden is a delight – we really enjoyed it. Loved the planting, the pond and the variety of different coloured foliage. In addition I liked the unobtrusive sculptures and the attractive outbuildings. My son would have taken Donald home

Excellent – was quite satisfied with my small cottage garden, until I came here and saw all the different varieties of my more common ones. Refreshing to see a ‘real' garden and not something maintained by an army of gardeners. I love it.

What a gem of a garden! We were so pleased to find you - I particularly liked the sedums - you have inspired me to look at the different species available. A beautiful and tranquil place to be. Really liked the items in the coffee shop.

Superb gardens with an ethical philosophy – amongst the very best. Providing excellent value for money – better than some stately homes' gardens. Coffee and cakes very good too! Especially the Colombian coffee!

Wonderful, inspiring garden, by far the best and most interesting I have ever visited in N.G.S. yellow book. Small compartmental areas, you just wanted to look around every corner!

We have spent a quiet Saturday afternoon in your wonderful garden, tea and cake in the cafe and buying plants from the Nursery. Don't change a thing, small but perfectly formed.

We liked: the humour of the “statuary”; the abundance of seats to enjoy quietly the atmosphere; the planting and design and all the wildlife. A peaceful place. Thankyou

Just lovely, especially the Guinea Fowl and the Chickens. We came for the gorgeous Geraniums and fell in love with the Hostas
